    3. Lawrence; I can't respond to your query, but I have a Gaddy connection in Cumberland Co. for you. Israel D. Gaddy, was with the 2nd Engineers Regiment, CSA. His wife, Sarah Ann Munroe Gaddy, was born Nov. 17, 1826, died May 1, 1892. She is buried, with her brother Charles, in the Monroe Cemetery, on Gaddy Mountain, in Hoke (originally Cumberland) Co., NC. The site is now within Ft Bragg. The Army erected a memorial monument to Israel in the cemetery last year. I don't know where he is actually buried, his birth or death dates. I'm interested in this family as they were the Monroes on whose farm the Civil War Battle of Monroe's Crossroads took place. I've been researching the battle recently. My primary interest is to learn who these Monroes were and if/how they were connected to the other Monroes in the area. I know that Sarah and Charles' father was Malcolm Munroe and that he died about 1836. Anything you can tell me about Israel, this family, or the Gaddy family in this area will be appreciated. By the way, I enjoyed your web site. I maintain a Monroe site, so I can appreciate how much work goes into one. You can check out my site at www.MonroeGen.org . What little info I have on Sarah and Israel are on Cumberland Co. Estate Records page ( www.MonroeGen.org/cumberland.htm ) and on the Monroe Cemetery Records page ( www.monroegen.org/BraggCem.htm ). I look forward to hearing from you soon. 3. Hi from Mexico. I'm Patty Register Coleman and I receive all the Cape Fear Scots e.mail. I live in Cuernavaca, Mexico which makes it very hard to make the contacts I need to trace my family. 1. I'm looking for information on my g-g-grandfather, JOHN JAMES REGISTER. He was born in New Hanover County in 1821, shows up on the 1830, 1840 and 1850 fed. census for New Hanover. Then he marries Susannah Davis of Cumberland County and moves there. I need to find out his parents' names in order to tie in with other NC Registers. HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ME? Thanks a lot of listening. Patty in Mexico coleman@laneta.apc.org eta.apc.org

    2. Hello everyone, For those of you who are interested in the Scottish General Registry Office Records, here are the URL's. It is closed until Wednesday, June 2, so that they can load the 1891 Census information. It is a pay for use site, so please read everything you can as to its usage which is available when you go to the site. It is not difficult to use and the instructions will give you a run-through which will accustom you to the site itself. Excellent resource site. <A HREF="http://www.origins.net/GRO/">Scots Origins</A> http://www.origins.net/GRO/login.html Thanks John Lester

    3. Now for my two cents....it would help if everyone posting to this list would change their mail settings to not post in HTML...that is why some links get all messed up...Rootsweb converts to plain text, but it does not delete the HTML tags.... -----Original Message----- From: GFSBetsey@aol.com [mailto:GFSBetsey@aol.com] Sent: Monday, May 31, 1999 11:15 AM To: CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Re:AOL posters Please! >From another pill (<G>): AMEN!!! 2. Got this off some list -- has really helped me. Highlight all of htm, being careful not to highlight <>, etc.. Use Ctrl and C key. Go to Type keyword at top by Find. Click once to highlight Type line. Use Ctrl and V key. Really is fast and avoids mistakes. Wanda.

    2. Hey Ann I show a Malcom McGugan christened on 28 June 1767 in Campbeltown . Parents are Donald McGugan and Ann McGugan. I show an Angus McGugan christened on 12 April 1769 to Donald and Ann. Also show a Malcom McGugan christened on 17 March 1770 in Southend. Father listed as John McGugan. Mother not listed. I will try to look on ScotsOrigins later on. What other names are used for "Hugh"? Reason being, I do not show a Hugh anywere on any census concerning McGugan, McGougan or McGoogans. The only name starting with "H" is Hector. I will keep looking. Thanks John

    1. Researching in Scotland
    2. Hicks
    3. I just got back from Scotland and could not find any information. I visited the Clan Donald Centre on the Isle of Skye, the Register House and the Archives in Edinburgh and I was told that all the old births, christenings and marriages have already been microfilmed and put on computer by the LDS, so you practically don't have to leave home for that information. I was told that I needed a name (and a name not as common as James McDonald!), a date of death and a place of death before I could even begin to do any research. Everything they have is filed by parish. I was very disappointed since I didn't have that information. However, two good things came out of that: I now have a good reason to go back to Scotland AND I had a wonderful trip. Scotland is absolutely the best. The people were friendly, the sites historical, the landscape beautiful. I'd go back in a minute! My advice - go to Scotland and soak up the atmosphere - save the research for when you really have the right information. Lynne

    3. Ginger, Here is a little bit of information which involves James McNaughton. It is from my book, SCATTERED SEED - Genealogical Research Data of Southeastern North Carolina. 1800 July Administrator, Daniel Campbell held the estate sale of the deceased Alexander Campbell in July 1800. He purchased one watch, a pair of taylors sheers, one heifer and a cow & calf, a bible, and divers articles. Angus Campbell purchased a saylors coat. Murdoch Campbell purchased a heifer, a blanket and a thimble, and John Campbell purchased a shirt and a hat and divers articles. An account left proved by the said Alexander Campbell, deceased, shows John Buie for Duncan £5:50, Sarah Buie £5:50, Archibald Paterson £1:13, John McDonald £1:1, Angus Shaw and Donald Shaw £1:12, Gideon Kirksey £0:10. Accounts found on the books of the said Campbell show Jenet Smith £0:4, JAMES McNAUGHTON £1:0, John McNeill, £0:14, Murdoch McCrane £0:10, Malcom Smith £0:14, Neill Smith £0:12, Archibald Carmichael £0:10, Archibald McCrane £0:10, Angus Campbell £0:17, Archibald Smith, £0:10 and Catherine Smith £0:10. A notation reads: Some of the above accounts are disputed, some of the parties having moved away. Others insolvent and some of them out of date. Signed by Daniel Campbell. Sworn to in open court July term 1800 R. Mumford C.C. (Cumberland County Estate Records - NCArchives) My URL is: http://home.att.net/~hbridges/myrtle.htm if you are interested in knowing more about my books. Good luck in your search! Myrtle Bridges
