I am also looking for the family of ANDREW GRAHAM, who died in Moore Co., NC, between July 19 (the date of his will) and July 29 (the date of his estate papers), 1853. He named in his will five children: Deby, MaryAnn, Eliza, Westley and Martha. I assume the family lived in western Moore Co. in the vicinity of Bensalem Presbyterian Church. To my knowledge, the Grahams are not in my family line, but my g-g-gf, John Munroe, was the executor of Andrew's estate. I have the original estate papers and have posted transcript of the estate records and his will on my web site at www.MonroeGen.org/GrahamEst.htm . John Lester, I just wanted to tell you how very much I appreciate all the web sites you supply this site with. I use every one of them. Keep them coming. Hey Patty, Here are two clickable "Blue Family" sites which you may be interested in. National Blue family Association Bridge Blue Web Thanks, John Lester
On the LDS site it shows Jane McArthur (wife of Archibald Smith, Sr.) parents as ? McArthur b ca 1728 m. 1753 Kintyre, Scotland to Christine Bride b. ca 1742. Have you ever heard that her maiden name was "Bride"? Also, in some of my notes it shows that Daniel mcLeod was buried between Wakulla & Maxton acros from LOF. Do you know where that is? Is it a cemetery? Thanks, Bev REMcA1@aol.com wrote: > Beverly, > > I'm a Wakulla McArthur, of course all the McArthurs there are Wakulla > McArthurs. Hello Joanne, It is truly my pleasure. I get a great deal of satisfaction when I think I have helped others and that is what motivates me. But when I get a "Thank You", such as yours, it seems to move the motivation into high gear of which I thank you for that also. Our Scottish Heritage and the special heritage which my family has given me in Southeastern North Carolina are very dear to me. Researching the Surnames of: McGugan, McGougan, McGoogan, McMillan, McKillin/McKillen, McFadyen, McInnis, McNeil, McGuirmin, Blue, Bethune, Campbell, Gibson, Patterson, Whyte and others. Thanks again, John Lester
I am looking for any clues on this family. I will list them the way that they are listed in the census sheets. Sarah Jane Graham is my direct relative. 1850 Census Cumberland Co NC HOH Graham, Sarah age 60 Graham, Catherine age 38 Graham, Anne age 32 Graham, Sarah J age 12 1860 Census Cumberland Co NC HOH Smith, Catherine G. age 47 Smith, Anne G. age 42 Messer, DA age 27 Messer, Sarah J. age 22 1870 Census Cumberland Co NC HOH Smith, Anne G. age 52 Smith, Catherine age 57 Sarah and DA Messer were living in their own house by 1870. My question has been, which sister, Anne or Catherine was the mother of Sarah J.Graham. Which ever one it was , was she never married? Any clues would be appreicated. Patricia Henderson London confused in LA
Hello Beverly, You might want to check the 1779 Census taken for the Duke of Argyll of all the holdings under the Duke at that time. You will probably find a number of your McArthurs and their locations. There are also a number of Smiths buried at the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church who came from North Knapdale, Argyllshire. Look for the tombstones which are exceptionally bright white. Thanks John Lester

Forgive my being blunt here, but if anyone is taking anything they find in the Ancestral File at the LDS site as more than fiction, then please beware. This database is nothing more than the junk a lot of inexperienced and wishful folks have entered. Yes, very occasionally the information is correct, but that is RARE. Do use anything you find in the Ancestral File as a potential clue, but hesitate to enter it into your database because it is most often no more than that stuff you put on fields to grow crops. :/ If there was only one thing I could get new researchers to understand, it would certainly be this!!!!!! That kerplunking sound you just heard was my own 2 cents dropping into the box. <G> Thanks for your attention, Betsey DeVane In a message dated 29/06/99 2:43:07 PM, bpaster@pinehurst.net writes: << On the LDS site it shows Jane McArthur (wife of Archibald Smith, Sr.) parents as ? I am a descendant of Neal McLeod who arrived in North Carolina with the 1774 wave. I have not yet pinpointed the location of his homestead, but supposed to be in the upper Cape Fear River area. One report has it in what is now Sampson County. Most of what I know about my Neal and all those who descended is in the Ophelia McLeod Wright publication of 1961. His descendants were mostly in Georgia and Alabama. I am descended from his youngest son, Malcolm (2-29-1785/9-15-1872) who settled in Decatur, Georgia. He was married to Rebecca Rooks. I am seeking information on Neal the progenitor, because the line stops with him so far. Hello Beverly, There are also a number of Smiths buried at the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church who came from North Knapdale, Argyllshire. Look for the tombstones which are exceptionally bright white. Thanks John Lester
Hello Beverly, You might want to check the 1779 Census taken for the Duke of Argyll of all the holdings under the Duke at that time. You will probably find a number of your McArthurs and their locations. Thanks John Lester
I have just recently purchased a book on Richmond County and there is a good bit in it on the MCKAY family. I do not have an address for the man handling the book because he has just recently moved, but I do have a phone number. His name is Sam Yates, ph. # 1-910-895-2728. The book also has a list of all the different people who have contributed to the MCKAY material (names & addresses). It also has a good bit on Flora Watson's family .It covers a lot of early famlies of the area up to the present. I am also a very fortunate owner (inherited) of a signed copy of THE STORY OF FAYETTEVILLE by John A. Oates. It really covers a lot of the early Cape Fear area. On page 20, it mentions that .."The Scot's Magazine, in September, 1769, records that the ship Molly had recently sailed from Islay filled with passengers for North Carolina, and that this was the third emigration from that county within six years. The same journal in a later issue tells us that between April and July, 1770, fifty-four vessels sailed from the Western Isles laden with 1,200 Highlanders, all bound for North Carolina." I have clilmbed aboard some of the replicas of the early ships and there really wasn't that much space, so an average of 22 people a ship was probably a full ship. I'm still looking for Commodore John Macleod's ship. -----Original Message----- From: Linda Burgess <lpsburg@avana.net> To: CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L@rootsweb.com <CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, June 25, 1999 3:33 PM Subject: MCKAY line!! >Does anyone have info on the origins of Archibald MCKAY? >He is suppose to have died fater 1804 in Richmond Co.,N.C.; married Nancy. >I am related to him and his son, also Archibald MCKAY b:abt1784;d:bef 1860 >in Richmond Co.,N.C. >He married Flora Watson. >Would love to find some living relatives!! >Thanks, Linda > > >

I am going to try this again. All of my messages get kicked back. Wanted those interested in MacKenzie or MacRae lines to know about a book that has been reprinted. It was written by Alexander MacKenzie iln 1894. Title is "History of the Clan MacKenzie with Genealogies of the Principle Families". Information can be obtained at e-mail address: alan-mckenzie@msn.com or you can write to Clan MacKenzie Society-Canada/ % Alan MacKenzie, Commissioner/ 580 Rebecca St./Oakville, Ontario, Canada L6K 3N9 I heard about the book through a Clan MacRae newsletter this past year stating that it contained so much MacRae information. I have bought the book and it is wonderful. It is a hardback, and covers a lot of early Scottish families in Scotland. Only 150 were printed, so it will again be unobtainable once this batch is sold. Apparently, this same man wrote a book on the MacRaes but it must not be available, for it was not mentioned as being for sale. Joanne Harley harleyclan@coastalnet.com rleyclan@coastalnet.com
Wow! I am so excited with all the replies so far. Thanks so very much for the leads. Jerry, I have lots of information on the McSwains, and the McGilvary's are distantly kin to the McKenzies here. I will have to get my mother's information. She has been researching the family for years (she is 86) and has lots of info. I will send what I have as soon as I can get it. There are lots of Scot descendents here in MS. We also have information on the Carter family. My mother restored a hewn log cabin built in 1846 by Isaac Carter and his wife Sarah. My grand-father William David McKenzie bought the land where the cabin stood in 1910. You can see a picture of the cabin at www.petalchamber.com. Anyway, thanks so very much for the information from everyone. I will look forward to helping anyone I can. Eileen Carter
Hi: This is my first time to use this mailing list so please forgive me if I do something wrong. I am seeking any information about an Alexander McKenzie b.1785 in Robeson/Bladen/Cumberland Co. NC. He married cir. 1808-09 Charlotte Monroe. They Crossed the Creek Nation in 1810 with one child and a "William Monroe and his sister" Settled in Perry Co. MS. We have no information about his parents or hers. I have his pocketbook in which he wrote "Alexander McKenzie - his pockebook- bought at John Thompson's storehouse - Fayetteville NC. May 09, 1809.I have been told that he was from Robeson Co. NC area but can't relate him to anyone else back there. His first son was named John Buie McKenzie. I would like to know if anyone else has any information on some McKenzie's living in that area at that time. The name Kenneth and John were said to be folks back in NC. Don't know if they were brothers or maybe father or uncles. I would love to hear from anyone who might have something on these people. Thanks so very much ECarter786@aol.com. Eileen Carter
Dear Scott, Sounds exciting. I am searching out John ( I think ) McKenzie, in the same area. Hopefully, this could give some hints. Dick McKenzie
I have a transcribed copy of a letter written in 1786 by Kenneth MacKenneth (or McKenzie) of Robeson County, NC to a relative in Scotland full of family information. Will send copy to any serious McKenzie researcher. Scott Buie
