The demand for the McKenzie letter became to great that I decided to post it. The transcription of the letter was sent to me by Betty Mackenzie of Peachland, British Columbia, Canada. Her ancestor brought the letter from Scotland to North Carolina. The letter is very unusual in that it represents one which was kept by a Scottish family. Most letters of the period are preserved by American families. Since the letter is a transcription the spelling of words may be in error. Please let me know your impressions of the content. Thanks, Scott Buie jsbuie@aol.com State of North Carolina Robson County Decem'r 28th 1786 Dear Cousin I take this oppty' to inform you that I am well and all my family thanks be to God for all it hoping these lines will find you in the same condition. Hi everyone: Does anybody know of a connection between the McKenzies and the Buie family in the Cape Fear area of NC? I am trying to locate the parents of my Alexander McKenzie b. 1785. His first son was named John Buie McKenzie. His wife was Charlotte Monroe so maybe there's a connection between the Monroes and the Buies. I would appreciate any information. Thanks so much Eileen Carter(ECarter786@aol.com)

Hello Moran I am researching McKenzie/MacKenzie 1770-80s eventually in Richmond County and the Gibson/Bennett connection. We think it was John MacKenzie and wife who arrived about 1776, had first born John Bennett and later Robert, William and Daniel. John Bennett married Agnes Gibson, daughter of Nelson, son of ZibaGibson and Mary Bennett, in 1815 in Rockingham, Richmond County. How about your Gibsons? Richard McKenzie
A Kenneth McKenzie signed my 5xg-grandfather's will in 1818 Richmond County, NC. Francis Cole

Greetings! WWW.MonroeGen.org , a web site devoted to the Monroe/Munroe/Munro families from the Cape Fear region of North Carolina has been updated. New data includes a copy of the Revolution-era "Massacre at Piney Bottom" by Eli Caruthers (1854) at www.MonroeGen.org/piney.htm This should be of general interest to anyone with Scottish ancestors in the area or an interest in Revolutionary War history. WWW.MonroeGen.org/john.htm is a new genealogy page tracing what was probably the earliest (1753) Munro family in the Cape Fear area, John Munroe and his sons Daniel, Malcolm and Patrick. Includes lots of links to the supporting documents. WWW.MonroeGen.org/MiscRecords.htm contains several new documents, including land records and a DAR membership application with Malcolm Munroe as the Revolutionary ancestor. I am sending this note to several RootsWeb lists simultaneously. I apologize if you receive duplicates. Joanne, thanks for working on your current project on ships. Most of the sites John offered (thanks John) I have tried and can't find "my" ship. I'll try a couple of ones he listed I didn't know about. Let me entreat you to keep going, though. Many Scots came over whose ships have not yet been identified. If you find some of these ships, you will have offered a valuable service to many. Also, does anyone have a site that would give info on ships that went down during the late 1700's? I have a relative who was lost on such a shop, according to family stories. This rootsweb site has been so quiet. Where is everybody? Off playing in the sand and surf, I guess. I still need some sources to check for all of those hundreds of Scottish ships that landed in Wilmington,NC. Does anyone know where all of those old records would be stored if they survived at all. If they are in Raleigh, where do you think they would likely be? In the Archives or the Sect. of State's office? May I'll go on line tomorrow and find out. In the meantime, for any of those interested in working in the Scottish records, this site was recommended to me.:.: http://users.deltanet.com/~lrawlins/igi.html#intro Slainte!
