Carole, Have you tried the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild? I thought that I had originally seen this listed on CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L, but I could be wrong. I, too, want to thank everyone who has so kindly given their time and posted many wonderful leads. Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild: http://istg.rootsweb.com/ Valerie in Calif. Thank you to all of you who are constantly giving me and so many other budding genealogists and historians so much information!! I have a question to help me begin my new research project: The rumor in my family is that a grandparent survived a Ship wreck off the coast of virginia or north or south carolina in the 1700s. The person was scottish (but do not from where) and immigrating here but may have been sailing from England. No one else survived...maybe one other person. >From 1700-1800: 1. did these ships have passenger lists? 2. where are they kept? only as records/documents or as books? 3. where can I best see them: in person, in book form, microfiched or on the internet? 4. how reliable are the records/ship transcriptions on the net? 5. were there very established ports of call for these three states at that time? can i limit my search to a few ports? did scottish immigrants only come into one or two ports? 6. were there very few recognized ship lines so i can search each company? 7. would such a wreck be in the newspapers of those days and should i check each cities major papers? Thanks for your help and advice. Carole in NYC __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

Hello fellow Scots-persons - Am happy to be back online and about 2000 miles closer to the Cape Fear River than I was this time last month! I'm still looking for ALexander McLennan b. ca. 1796 in North Carolina. His first sighting is in the Carvers Creek area about 1841 paying taxes on about 4000 acres of land. If you run across any McLennan, I'd be interested. Jeanne Holland

Hi, listers. I had the great privilege of visiting the Barbecue Presbyterian Church over the weekend. This church was founded in 1758 by new settlers to the area. Does anyone know anything about the descendents of 2 of the founders, Gilbert CLARK and Daniel CAMERON???? I am particularly interested to know if some of their descendents intermarried, as I have a Gilbert Clark CAMERON, born about 1828 to Thomas and Ann (CLARK??) CAMERON, found in Upson County, GA in the 1840 census. I have seen the book on the 3 Presbyterian Churches in the immediate area. Thanks Zou Feagin
I'm searching for anyone who can help me find information on Alexander S. Bridges and his wife Sarah A. (LeGrand) Bridges. Judging by the 1850 census they were both born around 1824. I have found in the 1850 census that they were somewhere around Cape Fear, NC. Their daughter Martha L. Bridges was my Ggrandmother. She was born in 3 November, 1850 in Bladen Co., NC. If anyone know anything about these two people please e-mail the information to me. All help will be appreciated. M.J. Hawkins, Dallas, Texas 75227
If there is a McLeod connection, there is an Martha McLeod of Aberdeen who is well organized back to 1774. Jim Simpson

Seeking a copy of a Graham family history manuscript prepared c 1920 by J. McNeill JOHNSON of Aberdeen, North Carolina. At one time a copy of this manuscript was in the possession of Mrs. Virginia Graham SMITH of Laurel Hill, N. C. and later her daughter Mrs. Ed YARBROUGH (Mary Graham Smith Yarbrough). This manuscript is referred to on page 242 of "Correspondence and Documents of Scottish Highland Families of North Carolina" compiled by Lt. Col. Victor E. Clark in 1987. It was also mentioned in a Graham family research summary done by Ruth Graham BLUE in 1961. The manuscript focuses on the GRAHAM family of Cumberland, Richmond and other nearby counties in North Carolina. This family came to North Carolina from Scotland c 1767 and settled in Cumberland County. Any help in locating this manuscript will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
