My aunt was Patricia Canning (nee Gilboy) who married Joe (Thomas Joseph) Canning in the late 1950's. Anyway, I came across your query re Francis Canning and hir father 'Owen' and in my research I found the marriage of a MARY Canning to a Thomas Hopkins for the 1st. March 1868 in Knockmore, Ballina, County Mayo. Her Father is listed as 'OWEN CANNING' on the Marriage details and is more than likely a sister to your ancestor 'Francis' In the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census, there is a family of HOPKINS living in ' PARK' Ballyvary In 1901 the residents are Thomas Hopkins Head Mary Wife Children - Michael, Maria, Maggie, Patt, Bridget, Thomas, James and John In 1911 Thomas at this stage is a Widower Children - Bridget, Thomas, John and James Hope this helps, and if I come across anything else, I'll let you know. BTH what details do you have on the marriage of Francis Canning to Frances Barr ? Were they married in Ireland or the UK ? Thanks, Tom Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
