Author: GreenJelloLand Surnames: Small Canney Ganner Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.canney/93/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I've come to a roadblock, and just don't know enough about New Hampshire to go any further. I am going off information in my g-g-grandmother's death record (CA). Name (Maiden): Nellie Canney Husband: John William Small Mother: Cynthia Waldron Father: William Canney Everyone, according to census records and the death record, all seem to be from New Hampshire. Nellie's certificate says she is from Dover. Her son's death record (CA) says her maiden name is Ganner. Her son was named Fred Forrest Small. I've found many of them all over the US, too, so I'm figuring it must be a family name. I have combed the census records for any combination of the above with no luck so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [CANNEY] The Four Basic Claims of the Family Origin of Henry "Kinne" of Salem, MA
    2. GKBopp
    3. I've added a new page to Henry's web site. The Four Basic Claims of the Family Origin of Henry "Kinne" ca. 1624 - ca. 1710 of Salem, Massachusetts http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gkbopp/HENRY/FamilyOrigin.htm tiny url to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/2vb4hp As most of you know - the basic claims are: (1) Henry was born about 1624 - there is evidence to support this. (2) Henry had a knighted ancestor - there is no evidence. (3) Henry had a connection to Norfolk, England - there is no evidence. (4) Henry immigrated to Massachusetts via Holland - there is no evidence. The web page discusses the possible origins of the undocumented claims - they appear to be the result of inexperienced researchers (who may have been duped by fraudulent researchers) who incorporated a few historical facts into tales of Henry's origin. As always - any DOCUMENTED information is welcome. Georgia Kinney Bopp

    1. Re: [CANNEY] Looking for George Canny's family
    2. GKBopp
    3. Canny males - or ladies who have a living Canny male in their family - might be interested in the Y-DNA Surname Study. I've seen one report of a Canny line being linked to the same ancestry reported for old Henry Keny of Salem, MA. There's no documentation for that but now there is a Y-DNA signature established for direct paternal line descendants of that line - so if a Canny male tested and matched - that would connect the families. Testing has it limitations but some times it does provide a break through.
