    2. Sorry, Jim. I have William and Fannie in the 1920 census in Virden but I could never connect them to my family. Their children are listed as William, Earl, Mildred and Andrew. 3. I found several marriages and more children. Also they lived in Morgan County and Sangamon County, as well as in Virden, MacOupin County, Illinois. I did not take time to prove any of this. Much is from Ancestry (census and military records) and http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html (marriage records) Mary Oldroyd married Canham in 18 Feb 1863 in Morgan County. PS: If the Canhams would share online, we could all profit from one another. I have another line going through Illinois and there are several of us back to 1590's. My Canhams lay dormant. Just a suggestion. I hope some of this was helpful. 3. William Edward Canham born 23 Feb 1881 in the city of Virden. He was a coal miner, tall, slender man with dark hair and gray eyes. His mother was Mary. Her surname is on the 1900 Census (town of Virden), but I can not read it. It is possibly B__ll_i__. She was born Nov 1848. She had 8 children, 5 living in 1900, married for 35 years <m. in 1865>. Her children look to be all born in Illinois (probably in the town of Virden) and her husband (who is not listed in 1900) was born in England. Mary immigrated in 1850. Her oldest son was born in Jun 1866 in Illinois and he was divorced in 1900. Another son, Hayden S. Canham was born Dec 1883 in Virden. The children are all listed as coal miners with the exception of Henry who is listed as a Horseman. This is only a guess, but it appears that the husband of Mary was Charles Canham. If so, the parents of Charles Jobe Canham b.4 Apr 1841 in Soham Wicken Cambridge England are John and Pheobe Bailey, and grandparents are likely Thomas and Elisabeth Darkens and gr-gr-pts are likely Thomas and Ann Roper. I show this Mary's surname as Oldroyd, but that could be wrong. It might be spelled Ollroid which could be the surname on the 1900 census. I have birth dates of two other sons: Hayden Sydney (Haddie) 19 Dec 1883 in Virden sp: Maud May Howard Ambrose 24 Mar 1886 in Virden sp: Rhoada Ann My Canham line is stumped in 1800's in California, and I can not say if we are related. 3. CANHAM is a habitation name representing a contracted form of Cavenham, Suffolk. Wicken is abt 14 miles west of Cavenham and Walsham is16 miles east.My earliest Canham is Samuel born abt 1628 and my latest is Susan born abt1686 who married Thomas Macro in 1707.Both Canhams were born in Walsham. I havent any later than this. I would think that the parents of Thomas most likely came from this part of Suffolk so I would look in that area. 2. Karen Eddy/2
    3. My CANHAM ancestors from California. Grandma says 5 Canham brothers immigrated from England to the Great Lakes area. She mentioned Canada, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, and other places, saying the boys each went in different directions. She could give no names of the five Canham brothers, nor time period, but my Canhams immigrated before 1859. She added a story about a "Lewis Canham" who was a sea pirate. I would like to hear from relatives and others who have Canham families with possible ties. . 3. I am interested in the CANHAM history in South Africa. Legend has it that seven brothers, having traveled from Wales, were shipwrecked off the east coast of South Africa and then settled on the land. Regards Malcolm >>> "Karen Eddy/2" <[email protected]> 2007/08/11 05:09 PM >>> Holly, I have quite a lot of data on several Robert Canhams and their ancestors, hoping that one might turn out to be mine. I've eliminated some, but others are still not proven or disproven. Such as this Samuel Let me know which families you are interested in, and I'll be glad to send them.
