Hi, I think I saw the name Grigsby posted on this list not long ago. Yesterday I had a rare couple of hours to spend on the microfilm reader, looking at old Arroyo Grande (San Luis Obispo County) Herald-Recorder newpapers. I came across the obit below, dated 4 June 1954, and thought it might be of interest to whoever was researching the Grigsby name. Hope it helps! Elaine Waiters ewaiters@thegrid.net -------------- WALTER GRIGSBY, 74 NIPOMO MESA, DIES Walter Grigsby, 74, who had lived in Nipomo for othe last 63 years, died last Saturday at his home on Nipomo Mesa after several months of ill health. He was a retired farmer. Grigsby was born at Napa, Calif., February 4, 1880 and came to Nipomo with his late parents,Mr.and Mrs. William Grigsby in 1891 at the age of 11 years. He farmed on the Grigsby ranch on the mesa for many years before retiring about 10 years ago. He and Mrs. Grigsby operated the Grigsby Rest Home on the Mesa. Serving for three terms as a member of the Nipomo School Board of trustees, Grigsby declined another term. He had also served as a member of othe board of trustees of Nipomo community Church. An uncle of Grigsby served in Col. Fremont's company in its conquest of California. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Grigsby of Nipomo; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Edwards of Sacramento; and a son, Forbes Grigsby. there are also two grandchildren. A brother, Leslie Grigsby who taught in Santa Ynes Valley High School for many years, died last year in Sacramento.
