Madge, Rowington is on the Grand Union canal on the section between Warwick & Birmingham. Lapworth is about 2 1/2 miles further north and is where the Stratford to Birmingham canal kisses the GU. The Rowington section is on the level but Lapworth has about 25 or so locks. Have you got g.gfather's death certificate ? That should give you a proper address.
