Dear All, Can anyone help me find my Great Grandfather James Thomas Gardner? Who initially worked as a Merchant seaman and then on retirement, I would imagine, worked as a Berthing Master for the,"Canal Company", either in London or Essex? ( According to his death certificate) Can anyone advise me where I can information on either the occupation or employee records for the Canal Company? I have tried various canal organisations and the PRO, but with little success. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
