Hi Listers, I'm new to the list and wondered if any one could help. My DORSETT half of the family were Canal People. I have the following: William DORSETT married to Emily SANSOM George DORSETT born 1876, Dorset married to Mary Ann LANGTHORN born 1883, Hayes, Middlesex, married 1898, Paddington Basin (she was only 15!) had 13 children, some of whom were: Alice, Minnie, Jack, Mark Edward (born 3 November 1901, Langley, Bucks, died same year) and my Grandfather Albert DORSETT. The problem I have is that Grandad always said he was born on 6th November 1902 at Langley, Bucks on a barge called the 'Dottie'. We have never found his birth certificate, nor does Langley, Bucks have any record of him. To make matters worse, as you can see above, a brother was born 1 year and 3 days earlier in exactly the same place, but this cannot be Grandad as the child died in the same year. Unfortunately Grandad passed away in 1990 and, since I only started my genealogy in October 1999, I cannot ask him if he can remembered being included in any census. If anyone knows this family or can tell me where I can find a record of them (ie Census), I would be most grateful if you could contact me. It is a family mystery that haunts us. I would dearly love to find Grandad's birth certificate to give to my Mother. She is the only surviving member of her family now. I would be interested too, in the families of my Grandad's siblings. Names of Barges: Dottie, Wagtail, Polly Thanks. Paulette (Basham) Thompson
