I am new to this list and am searching for elusive ancestors from the canal era. Owen Ryan, born Ireland, appears to have been working on the Delaware and Chesapeake Canal when his son John was born 01 November 1825 in MD. John later moved to Douglassville, PA where he married Margaret Irey and was a boatman on the Schuylkill Canal. Can anyone tell me where are the best places to research information on the Owen Ryan and other canal workers/boatman of this era and in this region? Thanks, Colleen Ryan Beener
