    3. Hello all! I found the following while searching Rootsweb.com in the Wayne County, Pennsylvania Forum: Died Under Suspicious Circumstances Posted by RICHARD J. KANE <mailto:[email protected]> <[email protected]> on Mon, 28 Jun 1999 Surname: Kane Does anyone have any information regarding a suspicious death on the Delaware & Hudson Canal in Honesdale, Pa around April, 1861? Something that might be in some of your own ancestors' records. The name of the victim was John Kane. ~The Kanes of N.E. Pennsylvania <http://www.monmouth.com/rjkane/index.html> . I was especially interested because oral history in my family told of a Simon O'Kane or O'Cain who worked on "the canal" and was involved in a murder. The family name was subsequently changed to "Kane." I have not been able to reach the author of the query, so I have no other details. Moreover, in researching my family tree, I can find no trace of a Simon at all. I'd be interested in hearing any details of this incident or anything that might relate to "Simon!" The Kanes eventually settled in Elmira, NY, where "Simon's" grandson, Thomas F. Kane (born 1892), was a conductor on the DL&W railroad. They say his parents were Michael Kane and Hanna Ryan. The Kanes were a poor Irish family that lived on the edge--it's very difficult to find out anything! Plus, I'm located in Nebraska and do not have access to records! Please help! Thanks! E. Kane Bugs
