Hi, This Is my first posting having only recently discovered this list but, I have known for quite a while that my ancestors worked on the rivers and canals In the above areas. My details are as follows; My great x3 grandfather, James WORTHINGTON was bapt' at Warrington In 1813 to parents William and Jane, the fathers occupation Is shown as a `Mariner` of `Bank Quay` Warrington which I believe Is an area near the River Mersey. The IGI shows a marriage at `Runcorn` (which Is just down the river) of a William WORTHINGTON to a Jane MONKS In 1806 but, so far I have not managed to check the event In the register Itself. James later married Sarah MILLETT at `Eccles` In 1837 before moving to `Salford` then `Manchester` where he worked on the canals around the `Castlefield` district. On the later bapt' records of his children he Is shown at various times as either a `Boatman` an `Iceman` a `Waterman` then, In his later life a `Warehouseman` which I think he may have worked In the many warehouses along the canals In the centre of Manchester. I would be pleased to share or exchange Info with anyone researching along the same lines. Many thanks. Steven Jones. In Salford,UK.
