Hello all: Company of River Thames Waterman & Lighterman Apprenticeships indexed 1692 - 1949; any of these who were licensed, and if they were not they should not have been working as such into London, should be found in this index with Binding date [when indentures or agreement signed], master's full name and date of freedom if granted [at which point they had completed the apprenticeship satisfactorily and could be registered as members of the Company. Available in 9 microfiche volumes from Trueflare Ltd, 19 Bellevue Road, Bexleyheath, Kent. DA6 8ND ENG. E-mail: [email protected] or try http://members.aol.com/rjcindex The person who compiled the index from records in the Guildhall London is R.J.Cottrell, and he was able to check, as a follow-up service, the Affidavit birth proofs (from 1759 onwards) which in my case were usually parish & date of baptism. He also publishes the Thames Riverside Parish Series, but I have not tried these yet. I don't recall the price, but was completely satisfied with the index and follow-up. With a five generation tree out of the blue, who wouldn't be?! I am sure the Society of Genealogists in London would have the index, and probably many of the southern England societies, for overseas societies it is less likely; Genealogical Soc of Queensland has them because I donated the set when I had finished playing with them. Since several people asked about this index, I thought it would be best to reply to the list and spread the information around. Regards, Gillian
