My HEEDS people were almost all connected with the waterways. They seem to have originated in Chesterfield in Derbys and migrated to the Manchester area. From the various marriages of the HEEDS family and from some "sightings" in the Northwich area (always near a canal) I suspect that they were involved in ferrying salt from there to Manchester. Has anyone got any more info on this trade please?
