Champlain Canal-at least that's where I believe my greatgrandfather would have been what they called a 'muleskinner' before 1840. His name was Sam Kinner. His mother Mary (Hubbard) Kinner, we've been told, ran an inn or boarding-house.on a canal. Since the family lived in Whitehall, it was probably on the Champlain, though Samuel moved before 1850 to Wyoming (then Allegany?) county in western New York. Do you canal people know of any sources which would tell me more about them? Thanks. Mary Fallon Richards
