He was born / lived / and worked around Oxford Canal = all his life.=20 These are of people who came through Aynho Wharf between 1910 to = 1920 on the Oxford Canal. Most families worked a pair of boats. The most numerous families = were the Granthams, there was John, Jack, Louise, Will, Joe and = Jim.=20 The Coles family was Joe, Tom, & his son Tom.=20 Joe Skinner, Amos & Jack. Joe Beauchamp, Jack Wilson, Tommy = Duckett, Joey Clark. Mrs Edwards who was deaf & dumb worked 1 boat = with her son, they used sign language all the time. Joey Gibbons = died in Aynho Wharf from the flu in 1917. Then there was a Alf = Hone. =20 Companies that ran boats were: Cannon & Clapperton ran 2 pairs to their paper mill at Sandford on = the Thames. Pratt and Haynes coal merchants of Bletchington had a = pair. Shipton Cement Co had 2 single boats they were in white & = blue colours. Hartshill stone quarries had several pairs & some = single boats bringing 4 & 6 inch granite stones for the roads. Jack Grantham brought coal to Aynho from the Coventry pits his = children were Joe, Doris, Reg & Amos.
