Museums Collection on Line The project to itemise the collection of the waterways museums and to put the catalogue on line has just come to fruition, and can be accessed through the National Waterways Museum¹s web site at www.nwm.org.uk. Under the title of the National Inland Waterways Collection, over 14,000 objects are listed, with facilities to search by waterway, personal, corporate, place or boat name, content, or object linked to the Waterways Objects Name Thesaurus, which in itself is a valuable dictionary¹ of waterway terms. Many of the museums¹ artefacts have been photographed and images of these can be viewed on line, in some cases, such as Gifford¹s cabin stool, from three different angles. The site promises to be a valuable resource for researchers unable to get to Gloucester or for preliminary research prior to a visit. § There is an even more ambitious plan to catalogue all The Waterways Trust¹s archives, plus other British Waterways archives not held by BW or TWT, onto the web, but the sheer size of this undertaking means that it will not be available for at least another two years. -- Hugh Potter Researching the Cromford Canal's History
