Beth: Nonconformist registers prior to 1837 had to be surrendered to the state, and have been lodged in the Public Record Office. Some churches (particularly Catholic, I believe?) refused and others eg Quakers made detailed copies. A very few just managed to ignore the order. But the very great bulk were surrendered, and are now found in series RG4 at the PRO, Kew. They have generally been filmed by LDS and are in the IGI. Post 1837 registers are generally with the county record office. They are usually available in microform (fiche or film) although that doesn't necessarily mean LDS have copies.
