Dear Wendy You mentioned Knottingley in your posting. I have just received the most amazing book called 'The sailing shops and mariners of Knottingley' by Ron Gosney and Rosemary Bowyer. It gives enormous detail about life on the waterways of Knottingley and costs just £6.95. You can see some detail on the web site www.summary.demon.co.uk/books/index/htm. It also gives in detail the jobs that people did together with lots of names of workers and ships. After sending me the book Ron offered to help further with my CUMPSTON master mariners and was able to give me names of ships they had sailed on and destinations. It is well worth buying (I have no financial interest in the book!)
