    1. [CANAL-PEOPLE] ENOCH SAXTON, boatman,Tipton Canal
    2. ELIZABETH HEATH
    3. On my gparents marriage cert. of 1906, my gfather's occup. is given as Boatman. His name is ENOCH SAXTON. They lived in the Handsworth district of Birmingham and I believe he worked on the Tipton Canal. I think he must have still been working at a boatman right up until he entered the army for WW1 as they had 4 children before 1914 and his occup given is the same. Where might I find records of his for this particular time. Thanks in advance. Betty Heath

    1. [CANAL-PEOPLE] Erie Canal family-Hulsaver
    2. Denise
    3. My ancestors lived and work on the Erie canal. At one time, Mary and Henry Hulsaver lived on a barge called the New Brunswick. (about 1850?-1877) Before that, Henry's parents, Henry and Catherine Hulsaver worked on the canal as boaters. Does anyone know where I might find a directory of barge names and names of people who work on the canal in the early 1800s? 3. Hi Listers I am researching the area of Mirfield Canals where some of my husband's ancestors worked. Abraham ELLIS marr 1778 wife Mildred SMITH) is noted as living in Mirfield and his son William ELLIS occupation is noted as boatman/carpenter William married Elizabeth COPLEY 1816 in Mirfield and their son James ELLIS is also noted as being a boatman. I am assuming this meant they worked on the Mirfield Canals but I know nothing of this side of the family does anyone on the list have any clues at all about where to look for information regarding those that worked on the Canals either building them or working on them many thanks Patsy http://www.patsymac.pacificsquare.com and again on http://www.countrystay.co.nz
