Hi There Is there any one researching the family Hunt, who were boat owners and builders living in Knottingley Yorkshire, and Gainsborough, Lincs. My G G grandmother was a Sarah Anne Hunt who married an Isaac Roberts her father was JOHN Hunt master mariner who married Mary Parker. Sarah had 13 brothers and sisters all born between1830 and 1849 in the Pontefract registration district. John parents were Thomas Hunt and Hannah Pulman. I have lots of info on the family but would love to find someone else researching the same name. Regards Margaret Longley in Doncaster

On at least one he is listed as a master boatman, and was accompanied by Kershaw Bates (mate). On at least one census he was listed as master of the "water lily" and was on board her on census night. I wondered if other members of his family were in the trade, his father was a coalminer so it seems a bit of a change. Though I suppose bargees carried coal, maybe thats the connection. Other surnames which may be present are KAY, CHILD, LISTER & HOLMES. Any information gratefully recieved. Thanks. Mike Wilkinson, Adelaide, South Australia.

Hi All, Our monthly ADMIN message has been re-vamped. You will now find it on http://www.dreamwater.net/genealogy/AdminMessage.htm Please will you all go an have a look at it - comments and criticisms welcome. There are a few reasons why we have put in on a web page. 1) We do not want to clog up the Rootsweb Archives every month. 2) Those of you who are on more than one of our lists probably do not want to see it more than once. 3) You can now pop on to read it whenever you need to instead of waiting for us to send it. Regards, Carol (Tree Tops) FAMILY TREE & WELL MEET AGAIN - Free Query Service: SKY NEWS British TV Text Pages 267 & 268, http://freespace.virgin.net/tree.tops/ http://www.dreamwater.net/treetops/Index.htm P.S. My 2xgreat grandfather was James Clark, Master Mariner. In the 1851 Census he and his wife Susan and their family, Jane, aged 16, Hasten, aged 14 and Ann, aged 12 lived at Commercial Road, Riverhead, Louth, Lincolnshire. I am interested in learning more about the canal there and what type of ship he might have been Master on!! In the 1841 Census, the family was also at the same address, but James is not listed. So perhaps he was at sea?? Can anyone help me with any info??
Need to know where to go for information (if there is such a place) about people who worked on the Erie Canal. I can't prove it, but suspect that gggrandfather, Sanford Ackerman, may have been involved in helping to build it. One of his wives, my gggrandmother was Adelia Dewolf born in Herkimer in 1817 so members of her family also may have helped build it. Nothing is known about her family, but what few Dewolfs I have encountered in that time frame 1815-1825 seem to be in towns strung along the canal itself. Sanford ultimately wound up in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus County, in the 1830 census. Any help greatly appreicated. Kathy Farrell
I am considering setting up a database of an index of canal people and allied trades on the northern canals, e.g. Lancaster, Leeds Liverpool, Bridgewater etc. I have researched my own canal family and taken details of canal families mainly from the Lancaster canal from the available censuses. I would be pleased to receive details of boatmen and their families from any source and any contributors would of course receive a free copy of anything | publish. Janet Rigby

Hi listers from all over, My problem with not being able to open PDF files from the internet has been solved by many of you listers. Apparently there were over 30 of you with the same problem! The majority of you told me to right click on the PDF link and save target to hard disk, then open it fro Acrobat. I tried this and it works, and also allows you to keep the file on disk to read off line at leisure. Many thanks to all of you, Linda Briggs

Hello Linda What often works if you have difficulty opening a PDF file within your browser is: Right-click on the link, then click on "Save target as" (assuming you use IE) and save the file in some appropriate directory on your hard disk. Then go off-line and open Acrobat Reader in the normal way, then open the file you just downloaded. Hope that helps David in Hertford, England Canal interests: BAXTER (Leigh area, also anywhere near the Bridgewater Canal in Lancashire or Cheshire) I use old reference books reproduced on CD from www.archivecdbooks.org to help with my research ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda" <Linda.Briggs1@btinternet.com> To: <CANAL-PEOPLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 11:35 AM Subject: [CANAL-PEOPLE] PDF files > Hello everyone, > Could someone please help me to open PDF files from internet sites.
