    3. Hi Aileen The problem with this list appears to be the fact that there are a number of people with questions but no-one with answers. Mike Fisher in Droitwich researching FISHER boatmen in Tipton & Oldbury, leggers and steam tug operators in the Westhills Tunnel Kings Norton. Also SMITH & PARKES boatmen in OLDBURY. ----- Original Message ----- From: Aileen Durn <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: 14 May 2000 12:18 Subject: [CANAL-PEOPLE] SUNDAY > Hello to anyone, > I mailed a little message and got no replies, I have had any messages at all > from this list, is it still running?????? > AileenDurn > > > ============================== > Search ALL of RootsWeb's mailing lists in real time. > RootsWeb's Personalized Mailing Lists: > http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > >

    1. [CANAL-PEOPLE] FAMILY NAME SWAIN
    2. Aileen Durn
    3. Hello to all, I am new to this list, researching my family who seem to be found around Warwickshire. Recently found the family name of SWAIN, when trying to find children and siblings for Elizabeth SWAIN who married Daniel DEARN in 1796 I found that the family appears to have travelled quite a bit, children baptised in Lincoln, Shropshire and Yorkshire, I wondered if these are canal people, has anyone any ideas at all? Very many thanks in advance Aileen Durn

    1. [CANAL-PEOPLE] List Owner Message
    2. Mrs Julie Goucher
    3. Hi All, This is a quick welcome to the new people who have joined the list and a reminder to those already on it. There are few rules on the list, but the one that I do have is that we respond to others, either via the list or directly to the list member, in the manner in which we would all like to be treated, politely, and without insult. We all have delete keys and I would rather we use those than upset or insult each other. Please remember, using email does not allow us to see a smile or gesture, so please consider that when posting. Now, onto nicer topics. We are, well most of us about to head into shorts and sunglasses weather and wander around the graveyards that our ancestors are in rather than sit in front of a computer, therefore the list is even quieter than usual, but the list does exist for the benefit of its subscribers so please use it! Now, because of a heavy workload I often only get chance to skim postings, if you have something specifically for me please indicate this in the subject heading or post to me at my email address. I will respond as soon as I can. Similar messages are going to all my lists so apologies if you get this more than once. Julie Goucher [email protected] List Owner

    2. Alan Hale
    3. Hello All I hope SKS will be able to help. I have scant details of my family on a boat called Cornelius on the 1861 census at New Brentford. They are:- Joseph Hale Head 37 Clara Hale Wife 29 Joseph Son 16 George Son 4 Robert Son 2 Sophia Daughter 3 months. Can anybody tell me which records office I can get a copy of the relevant page? Does the 1861 census have a named indexed at that office? Failing that any ideas for the Reference required to order a copy by post? 1. [CANAL-PEOPLE] Any LEICS Residents?
    2. Gus Tysoe
    3. Hello to all, I KNOW this isn't the Leicester site - but by no means all of us live on Boats (although I did for a couple of years), even if our ancestors may have done... But can anyone with access to Leicester RO do a lookup for me, please? Parish of GUMLEY - 2 marriages - of an AARON TURRELL (variant spellings expected!) of Hillmorton, Warks to: 1) Ann/e [unknown, b c. 1833] in around 1851; and 2) Jane [unknown, b c. 1843] in around 1878. Both the brides reportedly born in Gumley - and Aaron & Ann/e's daughter Harriett married a boat-builder. If you can, I'd be most grateful - and if you could reply off-list it shouldn't upset the listowner! Gus Tysoe Droitwich, Worcs PS I go to Worcester RO regularly, and enjoy look-ups...

I cannot find Drawbridge Cottage, but I could scan the relevant part of the map which shows the area around Etruria Vale. Or, if you are interested, you could order the map from www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk , price GBP 1.95 and 50p P&P (UK & Ireland) Have any new listers seen any references to Barnabas BEAUMONT who was a Boatman from at least 1851-1861 in Tipton?
