Hello! Can someone please tell me where I can find people, who were living on the canal in London, on the Mormon 1881 census CDs? tia, Best Wishes, Myrtle
Dear Milly The Fens are in the south east of England. Rather than me trying to explain (probably badly), try http://home.freeuk.net/xcelfm/history.html which seems to have a good description and some pictures. Sorry, I couldn't find any of your names listed. Dear Linda Rorry, but I have drawn a blank. The Fenland Ark existed from 1897 to 1904 so it may be a bit too late for your Joseph Mabbott. I am new to the list and although, as far as I know, I don't have any canal people in my family tree, my cousin's husband does and we try to help each other in our research. He would like to know anything anyone can tell him about the canal boats belonging to KNOWLES Coal and Iron Company of Wigan, Lancashire. His relatives seem to have had connections with one of their boats around 1870. Please can anyone give me any information? Thank you, Eileen [email protected]
Hi List, one or two folk have asked me where to obtain the above: Warwickshire Family History Society Ms. K. Hazelton c/o 26 Flude Road Ash Green Coventry CV7 9AQ price £3.50 + 55p p&p (2 years ago). Their website: http://freespace.virgin.net/diane.lindsay/wfhs.htm The booklet is updated annually, and additions are to be found at the back of the publication. Anyone wishing to submit material or Family Trees are welcome to do so, they ask they be sent to: WFHS, 7 Mersey Road, Bulkington, Warwickshire CV12 9QB (sounds like a good idea to me). Membership fees to WFHS: £8 single, £11 family, £12 overseas. Membership Secretary: Mrs. K. George, 18 Crownhill Road, Burbage, Nr. Hinckley, Leicestershire England LE10 2LD. WFHS also produce a Publications List, they have many other publications. Hope this helps. Regards, Elaine
Hi Everyone, I'm new to your list, and also new to canals. I've been working on my family tree for some months now and have just received a copy of my great great grandparents' marriage certificate. Alfred Edwards and Sarah Hazlewood were married at the Parish Church of St. James, Wolverhampton on 11th December 1898. Alfred's father is shown as William Edwards, Boatman. Basically that is all the information I have so far! I've tried to find the family on the 1881 Census but haven't had much joy. The closest I could find is an Alfred Edwards with son also called Alfred Edwards who were at the time on a barge on the canal at Bolehall and Glascote, Warwick. I have no idea at all whether this is the correct family but the age for Alfred Junior does seem to fit my great great grandfather. Perhaps his father was William Alfred Edwards, known as Alfred. Basically, I have no idea of where to go from here, and wondered whether anyone may be able to help me at all? Any information or assistance at all would be very gratefully received. Many thanks. Hi Alan, No references to Hale Joseph, Chatter family or Whitehouse. Randall/Randle: BRINKLOW PARISH RECORDS 9.6.1806 - JOHN RANDLE - Boatman - age 35 (the entries preceding this one are all burials, so I imagine that's what this is too). On the FRONT COVER OF CANAL MISCELLANY BOOKLET is a photograph, the caption is: "ISAAC RANDLE born Exhall 1820 died 1885 Braunston, Northamptonshire (boatman). PRUDENCE RANDLE (nee HARTOP) born Bedworth 1821 died Braunston 1885. Isaac was a canal boatman. The family disappeared from Exhall/Bedworth by the 1871 census. They turn up in 1881 at Braunston, which is by the longest canal tunnel in England. According to Isaac's will his address was The Canal Tunnel House, Braunston. The photograph dates circa 1860-61 and was taken at Exhall where son Joseph was born in 1858. Isaac and Prudence are the great-great-grandparents of Susan Mole of Worthing." (If these are your Randles you ought to buy a copy, it's a good photograph of the two adults, child and a dog, especially for 1860). SUNDRY RECORDS FOR CANAL BOAT PEOPLE IN WARWICKSHIRE. UPDATED 9.3.1998. 1891 CENSUS FOR BEDWORTH Bedworth Hill RANDLE - James - h - wdr - 36 - coal miner - Exhall RANDLE - Sarah Ann - dau - 14 - Exhall RANDLE - Joseph - son - 16 - Boatman - Foleshill RANDLE - Harriett - dau - 14 - Exhall RANDLE - Isaac - son - 8 - Exhall RANDLE - Emily - dau - 4 - Exhall This concludes all references to Randle.
