    2. Nicola Ward
    3. Hello, I'm new to this group, and wondered whether anyone is researching the same people as me! I'm looking for KEMP ancestors, who worked on the Medway and Thames from at least 1800 to the 1920s. I have the names of 2 barges/lighters, Borstal and Albion, both registered in Rochester. It'd be great to hear from anybody with similar interests! Thanks, Nicola Ward -- http://www.virgin.net/

    3. As a newbie to this list but not others I am hoping some kind soul can point me in the right direction I have been researching my paternal family for the last year or so and for 2/3 generations before me they were Marine Engineers so what am I doing on this list? well it seems that for a few generations before that they were busy cutting and hewing stone and always in areas where there were Canals. and so it seems reasonable to me that given that they were also building frantically all over the place they may have worked on canal maintenance, which leads me to first question what is the present name of canal near Bath is it Kennet and Avon? and was it so in 1850s? if I want to sail from here I buy relevant charts how do you manage on canals? thank you for reading so far Tony Rogers Pembrokeshire

I would also be intereted to hear from anyone my age this realted to cannal history. Iwas ponce told that the surname eaton meant river bank and i alwys loved that idea, hopes its true thank you
