He is down as a Railroad Labourer. He was also a Miner, Ganger(foreman) Tunnel miner in England. He was accompanied by JOHN SPURRELL age 18. Also Railroad Labourer. Both came from Devon. They were also given a number which applied to both males. Railroad Order 13134. So I guess they were signed up to a Railroad firm who may have paid for their passage which was STEERAGE. Hardly comfortable. They were heading for TORONTO. There were 45 men on board but only a few of them were heading for Toronto. We have lost track of James and John thereafter. We believe JAMES was killed in a mine explosion but do not know when or where. His wife declares herself a Widow in the 1911 census of Plymouth, Devonshire, England. If anyone can help me further I would be so grateful. this has been worse than "looking for a needle in a haystack". Thank you and kind regards. April. England
