Plina appears on the 1880 NY Census as a 75year old Widow, Ethnicity is American but it is stated that she was born in Canada, it is also stated that both her parents are Canadian. She is living with her son Angus BENWAY who was born in NY around 1832 and his wife Julia in Schroeppel, Oswego, NY. So Plina was born around 1805 in Canada. Hope someone maybe able to advise me on how I can find out more on Plina and perhaps her marriage to ? BENWAY. Kindest regards and many thanks Dianna from Sydney Australia

    1. [CANADA-IMMIGRANTS] Surnames: Girard, Deschamps, Vanesse dit Precourt, and Presse'
    2. Roni Miller
    3. Hello, I am looking for assistance, on the following surnames in Trois Rivieres Canada. Presse' Girard Deschamps Vanasse dit Precourt. I descend from Pierre Girard Presse' married Marguerite Deschamps dit Laliberte, April 21, 1760 at Cathedrale des Trois - Rivieres, P Quebec. Pierre was the adopted son of Joseph Francois Girard and Marie Anne Vanasse dit Precourt. Hyacinthe-Oliver Presse' drew up a contract for Joseph & Marie Girard to raise Pierre Girard Presse'. Pierre was born between 1735-1740 and died July 1, 1809. Marguerite Deschamps dit Laliberte was born July 20, 1742 and died March 4, 1791. I have the following children listed for Pierre & Marguerite: Cecile, Pierre, Marie-Marguerite, Jean Baptiste, Marie-Therese, Michael-Ange, Joseph, Marie-Cecile, Francois, Louis, Charles-Antoine, Joseph Modeste, and Marie-Louise. I am actually trying to trace more information on Pierre Girard Presse' I am hoping to possible locate information on his biological parents, and also any other information on Joseph & Marie Girard (the people who raised Pierre). I'm uncertain whether they legally adopted Pierre, if they were actually blood relatives to Pierre, or what? Anyone that could help solve this mystery it would be greatly appreciated. My line from Pierre Girard Presse' moves on into Missouri, and Illinois, USA. Thank you very much. Rhonda (Roni) Pressey Miller

    3. Hi, I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I am trying to trace my grandfather Robert GILMOUR. I don't know a great deal about him, but what I have is:- Robert GILMOUR born 1879 Scotland, I am not sure of the area. Married Rachel Perry HUNTER 11th February 1898 at Hamilton, Scotland. They lived in Bothwellhaugh and had 13 children, one of whom was my father Matthew Perry GILMOUR, born 28th February 1913. On 12th April 1924 my grandfather left Glasgow aboard the SS COLUMBIA - Anchor Line, bound for Halifax, Canada. I know these facts are correct. What I don't know is what happened to him when he arrived. As my father died when I was a baby, I can only go on what we heard passed down through the family. Apparently he died approximately 6mths after arriving in Canada as the result of an accident!! Is anyone able to help me with this problem, or give me some advice on where to look. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards Edelweiss in Australia

    3. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: JAMES SPURRELL Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2011 18:09:07 +0000 From: April <[email protected]> To: [email protected], [email protected] I have JAMES SPURRELL as arriving on the Pretorian ship at Halifax, Nova Scotia, St.John, New Brinswick 11/2/1906. from Liverpool, England JAMES 44. He is down as a Railroad Labourer. He was also a Miner, Ganger(foreman) Tunnel miner in England. He was accompanied by JOHN SPURRELL age 18. Also Railroad Labourer. Both came from Devon. They were also given a number which applied to both males. Railroad Order 13134. So I guess they were signed up to a Railroad firm who may have paid for their passage which was STEERAGE. Hardly comfortable. They were heading for TORONTO. There were 45 men on board but only a few of them were heading for Toronto. We have lost track of James and John thereafter. We believe JAMES was killed in a mine explosion but do not know when or where. His wife declares herself a Widow in the 1911 census of Plymouth, Devonshire, England. If anyone can help me further I would be so grateful. this has been worse than "looking for a needle in a haystack". Thank you and kind regards. April. England

    2. Ronnie Hamilton
    3. Hi, My name is Ron Hamilton from Cheshire, England and I am trying to trace any information regarding my following family members: Ada Annie Clare Dudley (1875) and her sister Mary Isabella Dudley (1877), they were both born at Stalybridge, Lancashire, England. They both arrived at Quebec aboard the Empress of Ireland on the 14th September, 1911. They sailed from Liverpool. Here are the marriage details of Ada: British Columbia Marriage Index: 1872 to 1924 about Henry Greville Pierce Name: Henry Greville Pierce Gender: Male Spouse's name: Ada Anne C Dudley Spouse Gender: Female Marriage Date: 30 Sep 1911 Location: Vancouver BCA Number: B11375 Registration Number: 1911-09-065157 GSU Number: 1983703 They were married at St. Paul's Church, Vancouver, B.C. Henry was born in 1876 at Hoylake, Cheshire, England which is near to a place called Birkenhead, and this is where the two Dudley girls were living in 1911 prior to sailing to Canada. Henry's occupation is shown as engineer. This is all I have regarding the Dudley girls, apart from the fact that they were born with the surname: Jelly-Dudley. The name Jelly was dropped but was sometimes used as another initial after their christian names. I think that I have exhausted all avenues that I can source but cannot trace any of these three people after 1911. I am hoping that someone might be able to help me find these people in Canada. I am sorry that I cannot give you any more information, so my fingers (and everthing else) are crossed that there is information out there that will answer my query. Many thanks for reading this mail, Ron Hamilton.
