If you know where John and his wife were married, city, town, Church, they may have records with parents names. Try the army for records, parents name and information. Have you posted on the web site for Bamford on Rootsweb? Also read other posting. Another is Genealogy.com for posting messages on the Bamford name. Without parents or siblings names, the task is difficult and will take a bit longer but do not give up. Any papers, pictures, anything from your grandmother for clues? What did she do with his army papers? With all the Bamfords in Canada, USA and England, you have family out there and one name will start the ball rolling Ciao for now. Sandy
