I have sent away for his death certificate but they state of new york was unable to locate it. I will try his marriage certificate...I hadn't thought of that. I have found one census but would like a primary source for verification to make sure I am barking up the right tree. all of his children are deceased now, but a few grandchildren remain. Peter died 12 years before they were born so no memories of him are around. I will post to the quebec board as well. thanks again for the hint!
