We have the details of the marriage as below from two reference books but I wondering if the actual marriage register entry might have any more information. "This is from the Index of Irish Marriages, Vol 2: Mark Hammond, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Temple married on 6 Feb 1844 Catherine Ossark, daughter of Charles and Catherine Ochense witnesses:Patrick Meehan, Georges Clarke This is from Mariages de St-Roch de Quebec by Pontbriand: Mark Hammond, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Temple married on 6 Feb 1844 Catherine Ossack, daughter of Charles and Catherine Delunn" These are probably my Great Great Grandparents but we know very little (nothing really!) about Mark John HAMMOND apart from that entry. We think that he was a soldier killed in around 1847. They had a son born Quebec ABT 1845 then my Great Grandmother was born in Chester (England) in ABT 1847. Catherine seems to have been Irish, though probably born in Canada, and was Catherine O'Shea. In 1851 she was living in a small Yorkshire village near Masham and was a "pauper, widow of a soldier". I presume her daughter was born on the way there, either in a barracks or perhaps workhouse. I have read that the widow of a soldier was returned by the Army to where her husband had joined the Army which would suggest he was from Yorkshire. Any little details in the full register could help a lot in solving these mysteries. Martin Briscoe Fort William Scotland
