I did find a birth for a Jane Elizabeth Cowie in the quarter ending April 1882 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. However, I cannot find a matching Cowie family in England in the 1881 or 1891 Census. The Cowie name is much more numerous in Scotland than in England.
