I have been researching Joseph LAUNDREE for 2 years now. What I know is he was born in Apr 1820/1822 in "Upper Canada" (according to censuses). He immigrated to the USA (Polk County, Wisconsin) in 1855 also according to census info. He married Sophia (UNKNOWN), a Ojibwa girl, between 1855 and 1859. They had 3 children - Elizabeth b Jan 1860 in ST. Croix Falls, Polk, WI; Josophine born 18 Jul 1868, Apple RIver, Polk, WI; and Joseph C (my 2gt-grandfather) 14 Jan 1871 Balsam Lake, Polk, WI. Sophia died 4 Apr 1874 in Balsam Lake, Polk, WI. I have not been able to find any info on Sophia, although I have heard there was an obit. After Sophia's death, Julia C PEASLEE, a widow with 2 boys (Seth E b 1868 and Arthur b 1870) moved in with Joseph and his children. By 1880, they were all (except Elizabeth Loundree) living together in Apple River, Polk, WI. In 1882, Joseph and Julia married in Albion, Wright, Minnesota. I have no idea what happened to Julia, but ! in 1897 Joseph married Florence UNKNOWN in Albion, Wright, Minnesota. Florence was born in Switzerland in Oct 1824. I believe Joseph and Florence moved to Oregon between 1901-1903, with Joe Jr. Both daughters stayed in Wisconsin. Elizabeth LOUNDREE married Alfred FOSTER in 1879 in Polk Co, WI. Josephine married George STEWART in Turtle River, Barron, WI 1 Nov 1894. Joe Jr married Cornelia SHAFER in 1894 (probably in Albion, Wright, MN). Joe Jr and Cornelia's first son, Glenn C was born 9 Aug 1900 in Minnesota. Their 2nd son, Carl Dean was born 8 Nov 1904 in Sandy, Clackamas, Oregon. Joe Jr and family stayed in Sandy, OR (we're still here) but Joseph and Florence moved on south to Independence, Polk, Oregon. Joseph died 22 Jun 1910 in Independence. Florence died 7 Jan 1916 in Independence. I have Joseph's death certificate, a copy of his will and probate case, I have him on the 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1910 censuses. Now here are my questions: 1 - (duh!)Where did he come from? Who were his parents/siblings? How do I figure out where to look next? 2 - Who was Sophia? Where is she buried? Where is her obit? How do I research Native Americans? If anyone could give my a push in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
