We have been trying to trace Horace's whereabouts for some time now without success so your information is really amazing. My Grandfather (Horace's brother), who was born in 1904 and who was only a child when Horace left for Canada, tried to search for him many times without success. I had no idea that Claude also emigrated to Canada. As you can probably guess, I would like to find out more about them both. Where did you find the Attestation papers? This is very exciting and it has left me wanting to find out more. Best wishes, Marion Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I would say for all the children, the timing would be between 1905 to 1917. The parents David and Mrs. Barrett I am unsure. My Grand Mother did not speak much about her father or her brother... I think the girls (with mother Mrs. Barrett) moved to the Ottawa area in the early 1920's (give or take). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here is what I know... David Morin married a girl from the Maniwaki Indian Reserve by the last name of Barrett. They had 5 children (that I am aware of). 4 Daughters - Bea, Marie Luce, Anna and Mai all moved to Ottawa with their mother (time frame unknown) 1 Son - David who moved away to Sudbury (time frame unknown). My mother told me that David Morin (father) was an electrician and that the son left the household at an early age and moved to Sudbury. None of the daughters (including my grand mother) have ever really talked about him. All I know about the son is he was tall, blonde hair, blue eyes and very attractive. The daughters all stayed in touch over the years. The last of the daughters (Mai) passed away just this week. Out of all the children of David and Mrs Barrett - only 2 (that I am aware of since no info has ever been given about David the son) had children. Anna had one son who passed away about 8 years ago of a brain anurism and Marie Luce Morin had one daughter Louise my mother), who still lives in the Ottawa area. If anybody has any information regarding this familly (especially David Moring the son) that would be greatly appreciated.... We thought about being a 12 year old boy who stowed away on ship to a new country, alone, would he really give his real name when he was found? I am guessing that the 1880 or 1890 is the year he came to the US. Supposedly he left England when he was 12 so that would have been 1872-3. On the 1930 census I found that he lists 1872 as his immigration date. I have another question that I don't know if anyone here would know. I was just told that Henry had started to apply for citizenship to the US, but never finished the process. Is there somewhere to look for these records? Apparently he started the process, but they had a house fire in 1925 and the papers were destroyed and he didn't want to spend the money on getting replacement papers to continue the process. Also, if he emigrated in 1880, he would have been 20 years old, which means he didn't end up in a children's home in Canada, unless the 1880 date means the date he came from Canada, and not England. However, I cannot find a Thompson/Rudland marriage in England. Also, in the 1861 and 1871 English census, there is no Henry with parents Robert and Ann born in 1860. The closest is a Henry born in 1856. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Henry ended up settling in Gladwin, Michigan, USA until his death, 20 Mar 1937. I have found him there on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 US Censuses. He married Arminda Jane Gray on 26 Nov 1891 in Gladwin, Michigan, USA. According to the 1900 and 1920 census his arrival to the USA was in 1880. But on the 1910 census it states he arrived in 1890. I cannot find him in the 1880 Census and the 1890 census was almost completely destroyed in a fire. This is where we run into the dead end.
