According to the passenger record, she was on her way to the Women's Hostel in Calgary, and was going to work as a domestic. Author: tomfeen Surnames: Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.cangenweb/5347/mb.ashx Message Board Post: First Parish Cemetery in York, Maine has launched a "memorialization website". We would appreciate your opinion. http://www.fpyork.info A "memorialization website" lists all the traditional information on a cemetery website. However, each person has their own webpage. We are asking families to submit remembrances, links, photos, etc. Veterans receive flags. Fire Department members get logos. We expect to add church membership and other civic group recognition. Author: DianaGendron58 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.cangenweb/2297.2.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. With the death date of July 27, 1960 in Toronto for Victor Stratton (father of Norman Victor) given by another person who replied to you, I found in Toronto Star the obituary for Victor. It said husband of the late Ida Hawkins and father of Ada (Mrs. W.C. Marshall) and Norman Stratton, Toronto. So Norman, the possible (!) husband of Grace was living in Toronto in 1960. I would suggest you contact the Toronto Reference Libary's Answer service, the website: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ask_index.jsp Click on the e-mail option "Adults & Teens". As it says, the librarian will look up 3 years in the Toronto city directory and has a link to ask a question of the librarian. Ask them if they would look in the Toronto City directory for 1960 (when Norman was living in Toronto area according to his father's obituary - Rexdale being a part of Toronto) and in 1974 when you know Grace was living in Rexdale. Ask the librarian if they would give you the information for any Norman/Norman Victor or Grace Stratton listings for those years. With that information for both 1960 and 1974 you may be able to see if you find an address that matches between Grace and Norman. Author: wbc38 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.cangenweb/5345.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Stella, I have searched 1920 and 1930 census. I do have his service records, was surprised to find him in US. I found him in the 1910 census at Ford DA Russell in Wyoming, figured out he was in the army and ordered his records. The family story was a bit mixed up because it was told down the line that the missing brother was my g grandmother's brother, not true her only brother stayed in Norway. I am guessing Victor Kortoe may have gone into Canada to work in lumber, many Norwegians immigrated to Canada to work in the lumber industry. He probably went into Canada about 1911. Any other ideas?
