Hi Listers, James MAXWELL,(1762 Armagh Ireland - 1847 NB) m. ca 1787 in Charlotte County, NB to Elizabeth HILL,( 1765 Maine - 1853 NB). Elizabeth is the dau of Daniel HILL Revolutionary War patriot. I have proven my Daughters of the American Revolutionary (DAR) line; another relative has proven the Sons of the American Revolutionary War (SAR) line. I have proven my United Empire Loyalist (UEL) lineage on James MAXWELL due to his service in the Revolutionary War for the Crown as a driver in the Flying Artillery. The MAXWELL family is VERY prolific. (grin) James & Elizabeth had 11 children. I am seeking to contact descendants of James & Elizabeth. I descent from James & Elizabeth's youngest son Samuel who married Henrietta CHRISTIE. Samuel & Henrietta had 17 children. My next generation is Samuel & Henrietta's 6th child Samuel "Harris" who married Minerva GILMAN. Samuel & Minerva had 11 children. Hope to hear from any MAXWELL descendants who migrated west as far as Victoria Island, BC, many of whom were in the timber industry. I have much data I'm willing to share. Much of it can be seen at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~strout/geneal.html Marilyn Maxwell Strout strout99@yahoo.com
Re: Roll Call: I have a brick wall and maybe someone has some information to help me. Background: My great grandfather George Travis Speck was b Feb 14, 1855 in Oakville, Halton County. He married Francis Dempsey on Nov 9, 1876 in Oakville. He had a son - my grandfather George Valentine Speck b Nov 26, 1878 in Humberstone, Welland County. George Travis Speck died on Nov 29, 1921 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Welland County. Problem: my brick wall - The problem is that I can't find George Travis' parents. What I have found so far: On the marriage record of George Travis Speck to Francis Dempsey, it states that his parents are George Speck and Hannah Speck (no maiden name for Hannah). The children of George Travis and Francis Dempsey: Ellen b 1881 married William Winn and lived in Niagara Falls, New York. Florence b 1884 married Harry Wright and lived in Chicago, IL. William Charles b 1888 married Gertrude Harrison and lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario Pearl May b 1891 married Frank Fulsome in 1909. Later married a Stephens and lived in Toronto, Ont. Edris married John Lederer and lived in Tonawanda, New York. Frank (Francis) - died young in B.C. George Valentine b 1878 married Laura Petrie and lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario On the death record of George Travis Speck, it states that his parents names are John Speck and Martha Stevens. I checked the cemetery records at Fairview, so I know he is buried beside Francis Dempsey in Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls. (My elderly aunt told me that she remembers visiting her aunts on Sunday afternoons as that is what they did to amuse themselves before TV, etc. and that she remembers her grandmother Francis who died in 1938 because she lived with her). It says on the death record that the name and relationship of informant is his daughter, a Mrs. Stephens of Toronto. So there is the connection to Stephens who lived in Toronto. It states this info in the death record. I could not find an obit because the relevant pages are missing from the microfilm at the library. I found a George Speck on the 1871 Census in Haldimand. But his wife's name is Christina and there is a son George age 13. The age is 3 years off for him to be my greatgrandfather - George Travis, but he could be. But if so, then that makes it 3 different parents names. And I tend to think that this is not the family, because on the marriage record, he says that he is 21 in 1876. If he is the one, he lied about his age or it was written wrong. Francis was only 16 at the time of the marriage. I wrote to the United Church of Canada Archives (because on his marriage he states he is Methodist). They wrote back and said that the only Speck they could find being baptized in Halton County from 1829-1897 was a Mary Elizabeth Speck b Aug 7, 1852, baptized in 1854 and her parents were George Speck and Catharine Speck. I have paid someone to find documents for me after I ran into the above problems, but if one of you has any information that can help, please e-mail me and let me know. Thank you. Gerri "the love you take is equal to the love you make"
I need information on my greatgrandmother, Marie LeVasseur, LeBleu,Roberge. Please do not refer me to the leVasseur association...I put in the wrong information on her, about 10 years ago, and recently found out that the parents I listed aren NOT her parents. She was born May 5 1857. in Beconcour (most likely) or Gentilly (not in records) She named her first son, John, and on her second marriage record, listed her own father as Jean, so that would make sense. I always thought that Aime LeVasseur was her father, but that man and his family moved out to Lewiston ,Maine, and their daughter Marie died out there. My Marie died Jan 28, 1901, in Marquette, Michigan. I am certain that she had a brother, Louis, and more siblings..I would love to get in touch with someone who would be one of THEIR descendents. thanks for any help you can give. Judy

This is a good opportunity for everyone on the list to post and hopefully make a connection. Please DO NOT "reply to" this message. Open a new email. ROLL CALL GUIDELINES: 1) DO NOT add the words "ROLL CALL" to your subject line. 2) SUBJECT LINE of email should read something like: Last name, first name, dates, place e.g. POWER, Michael (1798-1930 Ireland>Nova Scotia) OR WOLFE, Archibald 1800's - Canada 3)Include important info that you know, names, dates and locations. **Subject line is VERY important.
