I have done a lot of family research, but never in Canada, and have no idea what is available or where to look. Is a Canadian census available for the 1850 era (probably southern Ontario area)? I am looking for a family that immigrated into Sanilac County, Michigan, in the mid-1850s. They purchased U.S. Federal land grants for farming and probably arrived from the southern Ontario area. William Allen, born 1810-11 in Scotland Sarah (wife), born 1822-23 in Canada known children - all born in Canada: William, born 1839 John, born abt. 1845 James, born abt. 1847 Margaret, born abt. 1849
Hello list, I've updated my website with not only my own family information, but also some data that I've put together to hopefully help others. Here's what you'll find. 1. Of course my family info with copies of documents such as those that I found at the National Archives in DC in my great great grandfather Louis KIRCHER's (born in Weinsberg, Wurttemberg) Civil War Pension files. Included in those papers are sworn statements made by friends to aid in the pension eligibility research. 2. I own a few census index cds and have full access to ancestry.com/ancestryplus and am willing to do look ups. Just click on the census image on my home page and it will take you to a page where there are directions to follow. Please follow them or I will not be able to answer your request. 3. Some inscriptions that I found on tombstones that were near those of my own family members. 4. The Last Wills of 4 WEINBERG/VINEYARD/VINYARD ancestors. They came from Lavern, Westphalia, Prussia to Cumberland County, New Jersey. 5. Four partial Ships' Lists all Liverpool, England to Philadelphia, PA. 1907 - 1910. Not all passengers were from England, so look them over for your ancestral names. 6. I transcribed 3 pages from the Philadelphia, PA. Orphan's Court Marriage Records Index 1885 - 1916. Many names there! 7. I put some old unknown photos from all over the world from ebay on my site in hopes that someone might find a relative there. If interested, you should be able to just right click on the enlarged photo and then left click on "Save Picture As". 8. Many fantastic useful free links. There are a few that provide limited access but still give you enough free information to start out with. I update the links monthly and mark new ones as NEW with bright red letters that you can not miss. 9. Photos of headstones at Fernwood Cemetery coming soon. the URL is... http://hometown.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Some of you might find accessing this URL a little easier, but the graphics don't line up right... http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html If you should have trouble accessing the page just please continue to try again later. It just means that a lot of people are trying to access it and I guess AOL can't handle the overload. I am sending this out to all of the lists that I belong to. I swear that I am giving the correct URL Please forgive my multiple postings, but I think it's important that I let as many people know about my site as humanly possible. Please pass it on to everyone you know who is interested in genealogy who might be on a list that by some small miracle I don't belong to. There is definitely something there for everyone from beginner to expert. If you're reading this from a specific surname mailing list and you can't find the surname in any of the documents/transcriptions or family trees, send me an email. Most likely that means that the surname is in my family tree but just hasn't found a spot on my website yet. If you're reading this post off of a Geographic mailing list and no one on my website is from that area, then check the ships' lists for country/state/city of origin or final destination. If you don't find anything there, then again, email me. I have ancestors from there who didn't make it on my website yet. Happy hunting and good luck, Ella

Just make a request to the BC mail list (rootsweb) and ask someone to go print you off a copy. Someone will usually do it free or just the 50 cents a copy plus postage if necessary. I will be doing lookups in September if you want to contact me Sept 1st. If all you want is confirmation of the person by birthdate, then you don't even have to have the person print it. Good luck, April

Volunteers will usually take the cost upon themselves -or only charge for their cost of photo copy and/or postage. All of which should cost somewhere in the $1.00 range - depending on location - to Canada or U.S.A. These microfilm records can also be searched at some Public and University libraries - and the Latter Day Saints Family History Centres [film may need to be brought in] photo copies of the microfilm records can be made - at the cost of the copy machine. For $19.95 Cdn., it should give you his birth date. Certainly, everything else matches. Also at the on-line Manitoba Archives, there is a Joseph Barnabe born June 21, 1894; mother's name is given as Delyma Salva. Could this be him? If so, there is a Joseph Arthur born 11/20/1888 with the same mother's name, and a Joseph Ernest born 6/16/1890. In the Catholic faith, it was quite common to give all of the children the same first (religious) name and use their other names as their more commonly used names.

He is listed as living on Ash St. in Okanagan Falls B.C. from 1975-1980. He is then living at the Penticton Retirement Complex 1981-1982. He died Aug 29, 1982 in Penticton and is buried in the Okanagan Falls cemetery. He was 88 years old. My wife's father Firmin Elphege Barnabe, born June 21, 1894 in Manitoba, left Winnipeg in 1936 and was never heard from again. He was a farmer and knew very little else. It is possible that he worked as a ranch hand because he was very fond of horses. I'm quite sure that Frederick and Firmin are the same man but need help from someone, who might have met him, to confirm. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
