Hi Listers, I needed some information that seem out of reach so I emailed the RI Archives to ask for their assistance. They are sending me a copy of a birth for Ramenda Robethail born in the year 1869. I actually think this is the grandmother of my cousin Joyce GEVRY. It suppose to be Amanda Robitaille but I suppose since this is the only birth in RI for the date requested it is her. Hmmm I chalk this up to someone not knowing how to spell French Names----possibly Amanda's parents could not read or write so they didn't know the correct spelling either. Of Course, I intend to dig into this further to make sure it is the correct person. For anyone who wants to contact the RI Archives here is the form to use. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY**** **** YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED OF ANY CHARGES*** Note: Rhode Island General Laws stipulate that all records of birth and marriage are closed for a period of one-hundred (100) years. I did find one for an Olivier Gilbert to a M. Bourque, at St-Martin, Beauce, QC, 17 Jul 1893 but that seems much later than what you are looking for. Did this couple emigrate to the USA? Do you have another couple I could look into and who would be descendants of this one. Jean-Marie
Hello I am new to the list and I am trying to locate the children/grandchildren of my half sister Laura VANDALE nee NEILL, the limited information I have is as follows. Laura Lucy NEILL the eldest daughter of John Alfred and Ellen NEILL was born in Kirkdale, Liverpool, England on 21 July 1892. She married 474058 Pte James Howard VANDALE a member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, at Birkenhead, Liverpool, England in the Jul-Sep Qtr of 1918. James Howard VANDALE and his wife returned to Canada 1918/1919 and settled in Saskatchewan were they had at least two daughter & two sons one of whom was called Jim, who was still serving in the Canadian Army as late as 1962. The family moved to Creighton, Saskatchewan 1961/1962 to be close to Manitoba where their daughters lived and it is believed that their sons-in-law worked at Flin Flon. The last letter the family received from Laura dated 3 December 1962 had the following address: "Box 151, Creighton, Sask, Canada" and was signed Laura and "George" so it is possible that by this time James Howard VANDALE had died and Laura had remarried. Any assistance in locating the family or pointing me in the right direction were to search would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes from Sunny Brisbane - Australia Stan Neill http://home.pacific.net.au/~s.g.neill/

In the old days, people sent photos of this kind, of family members, to one another like we would send postcards today. The word "le timbre" means postage stamp in French. I'm pretty sure this would be the case, and where to situate it for successful mail delivery. Dennis
