The National Archives of Canada (NAC) holds immigration records from 1865 to 1935. The records before 1925 are not indexed. To find a passenger you will need to know an exact date of arrival. It is unlikely that the ship list you want has been transcribed, but there are hundreds of online lists and links to passenger lists of ships going to Canada at Olive Tree Genealogy's ships Passenger Lists Online passenger lists for Ships to Canada after 1865 can be viewed at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocanp05.shtml There are also search engines to search various databases of ships to Canada at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml A list of NAC microfilm numbers for passenger lists to Canada 1865-1922 can be found at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_can1865.shtml Good luck, Lorine * The Olive Tree Genealogy http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ * Naturalization Records http://naturalizationrecords.com/

They had three sons, all born in Canada. George b. January 1878 John William b. July 26, 1879 (my gr grandfather) Francis L. b. July 1883 I am told that their mother and father lived in Michigan but Elner J. crossed in to Canada to give birth to her sons and then go back to Michigan. I have to assume that since she was born in Canada that her parents were there when she had her children. I do not have her maiden name however. Elner doesn't seem like a very common name to me but I don't know. If anyone has any ideas I would love to know about them. Thank you very much, Cindy (o:

I am getting along great and your directions have been fine. I have found most of my ancestors back to the 1600's and some in the mid 1500's. How bout that for a good student!? Now what's next? I am sure somewhere I will hit a snag and then back to square one. I hate that when that happens! Do you have any ideas for the two murders that I told you about? I would really like to trace those further but don't know where to go next. Talk tomorrow. Oh by the way I am in Colorado. Where are you? Vic

The cemetary is full of women with spotless houses, this is more fun. (I lied, my house is clean) I can never thank you enough for the story you sent. I am a people person and I love peoples storys. I am sorry to say, I have limited resources, but I do what I can. Now, SCHOOL IS IN SESSION!!!!! PAY ATTENTION!!! (large letters means I am yelling,) I ask questions at the end of the session. I will not send you information on Moise Morin, YOU will find him yourself. (Am I not nasty?) Now, print this off, if you have a printer and follow it along. OK! (Although I am trying to do it from memory, I have it under favorites.) ***Always remember--the less information you give, the more you receive*** 1) Go to the LDS site. 2) Census 3) First box, where it says ALL, bring up 1881 Canadian Census 4) Enter only SURNAME AND FIRST NAME ( Moise Morin) 5) Enter--under ethenic origin--click on box and highlight French. (or you can leave it blank and find more Moises) 6) Click search. This should bring up 19 (or more) men named Moise Morin on the Canadian census 1881. 7)Click the first Moise Morin, this will bring up an Individual Record on him and Source Information at LDS. 8) Top right corner, click on HOUSEHOLD. This will show everyone in the home. This also worked for Chenevert, and the first Chenevert was Odilou!! You may not find anyone related, but it's fun trying. Alright, school is out. I do have one other site I would like to send, but I have to know if you passed Grade 1. So, happy hunting, good luck and I will wait to hear from you. I lied, I don't ask questions when school is finished!!!! Ciao for now. Sandy

Surnames: chenevert, morin dit chenevert Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/7aB.2ACEAE/890.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sandy, Thank you so much for your help. Although I don't quite know why you are doing this, I sincerely thank you. I have run into so many dead ends that it isn't even funny. Yes, you have found the right family of Chenevert's. Odulou was the Grandfather of my Grandmother. He did have the children named in your message but they have Eugene as a female and he was indeed a male. He was murdered in Erland's Point, Washington in 1934 along with his wife Peggy, and 4 other people. It has been named many things but it was indeed Eugene Chenevert, Odulou's son. I have always been lead to beleive that Odulou's name is indeed Odilon and he changed his name at one point from Alonzo to Odilon or Odulou, whichever it is. Moise Morin dit Chenevert was initially a French immigrant sent to Canada to fight in the kings army. He was born in Noit, France sometime in the 1700's. He did something which I can't think of what right now, to displease the king. He was dismissed from the army and died a pauper known as "captain with half pay" at about the age of 70 or 80. Then there is the next generation of which I believe you may have found in Moise Morin of Canada or it could be just many with the same name but not the ones I am looking for. If you would, send me the information and I can see what rings a bell. About Eugene, he was a prize fighter of his time until he killed a man with his bare hands somewhere in CA. The reason he intrests me so much is until about a year ago my mother, who is 77, had never heard of him. I can find a couple sketchy mentions of him in some remote pieces of family history that 2 people out of the whole family have written. Those were supposition only. They mentioned that it was rumored that a younger son of Odilon Chenevert, existed with the name of Eugene or in the other notation it was Eugenie. Eugenie is not an unusual name for either girl or boy in this family. There have been a few of both scattered out over the generations. The murderer, of Eugene, was caught supposedly. A man named Leo Hall and executed within a couple years although he plead innocent to the end. Eugene was rumored to have married a VanVliet or VanVleet before marrying Peggy?. The VanVliet marriage is supposed to have had a son, Billy or William. No one has ever mentioned thi! s except a very distant in-law who is now submersed in age and senility. No one seems to know how Eugene came to be in Washington alone. His sister Isabel did live there later in life but still no one knows why or how for either. In 1942 or 1944, my Grandmother's youngest brother Edward again died under mysterious circumstances in either Duluth Mn or in Minneapolis-St. Paul MN. He was found with his throat cut and in a hotel room alone. No sign of struggle was found and no broken locks or forced entry noted. It was ruled a suicide. (go figure that one!) No one seems to know what Edward did for a living but they do know he made a great deal of money doing it. Mother remembers pieces of him from her childhood but other than that no one seems to know much about him. This makes me wonder if there was a connection between he and Eugene. It was a great time for the booze running in the northern states and the info I have been able to find definitely has Eugene in the middle of that. Eugene and Peggy were vaudeville actors, which is one thing I forgot to mention. He went by the name of Bert Vincent and I can't think of the name she used, right now. Between Edward in northern Mn and Eugene in the Pugent soun! d in Washinton, is not much distance to travel on the huge rivers alone the US, Canadian borders. Just a guess anyway but would like to learn more about both. I have looked for newpaper articles written then but cannot find much. The Bremerton News had a couple articles with pictures of the Washinton murders but cannot find much else. There is nothing so far regarding Edward. I have been to the LDS site but guess I don't know quite how to use it. Please tell me how to search there and anywhere else you have found useful. I love to do this for my Mom, and myself but am not too great at it. I can find simple things but anything further I have no idea. I certainly would appreciate someone to guide me through. THANKS in advance!! Well I have bent your ear long enough for now. You will be sorry you offered help, huh? I hope to hear from you soon. Your message was a great boost for today!!!! Vicki
