    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brassard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/7aB.2ACEAE/935 Message Board Post: I have located a tombstone with the name "Edmond Brassard, died _________________," at the bottom "age 34." In my research, it says that Edmond died in 1885 or 1886. The stone was in several pieces and is now repaired but there is missing information where the stone was broken. Also the name Brassard appears at the bottom, before age 34, and that could mean that he was the son of _____ Brassard or there was another name on the tombstone. I did find in the 1880 census of Nevada, North Ruby, Elko, a John Brassard age 19, born Canada, and Edmond Brassard, brother, age 28, born Canada. This Edmond Brassard could be the one on the tombstone. Any information that anyone can provided will be greatly appreciated.

    1. [CGW] Look Ups, Web Pages and Copyright Issues
    2. Charlene Beney
    3. http://www.stellar-one.com/copyright_concepts/fundamentals_gene.htm This is a link for an article once more, explaining copyrights and genealogy by Michael Patrick Goad. It is especially interesting for those people who offer look ups from published works and/or publish web pages. Simply put; For works created before today, there are a few basic durations and conditions for determining copyright status: * If an original work of authorship was created after 1977, it's copyrighted and it's going to be for a very long time. The earliest that any work created after that will lose its copyright will be about 2049 - that's assuming that the author died right after he authored the work. This is where the Fair Use policy comes in - unless you have written permission from the author/publisher, you should not scan, copy or quote verbatim from entire pages of a genealogy, family history, etc. Even though books such as Cemetery Records would not be considered "original" by the criteria given, you should not copy full pages from these as well (w/o permission). In some cases, all you would be able to say is whether an individual is in the book and on what page(s). At most, providing listings for several specific individuals would be acceptable under the fair-use provision. 3 names would be considered within fair-use provisions. As always, the best-case scenario would be to obtain written permission from the author/publisher, in which the extent of lookups allowed is spelled out. * If it was created before 1923, there is no copyright on it any more, so long as it was published. If it wasn't published, it may still be protected by copyright. He gives examples for census records, compilations, cemetery records etc. It is an article well worth reading, especially if you are doing web pages and/or offering free look ups. My father tried to get his brother's military records of his naval career during WWII but since he died in 1989 and is not an immediate relative - a no go to receive any info. Being a brother does not apply since his son & wife are still living. Ann

My ancestors arrived in Quebec Province in ~1824, and they settled in Argenteuil County. Other HENDERSON's, including 7 HENDERSON brothers, came over and settled .. in all the eastern Provinces. You didn't state where your Sarah HENDERSON was born, but, if she was born in Canada in 1857, she could have come from any of the above families. FYI: "Irish immigrants" arrived in Canada in two waves, pre-Famine years were 1820's, 1830's, etc., and Famine years centered around the 1850's. Many of the so-called "Irish immigrants" were originally from Scotland.
