Have you seen this information from the LDS web site: Marie DEKELVER Birth Date: 16 Jun 1915 Death Date: 15 Jun 1997 Social Security Number: 398-05-7395 State or Territory Where Number Was Issued: Wisconsin Death Residence Localities ZIP Code: 54115 Localities: De Pere, Brown, Wisconsin . There were many DEKELVER families in Wisconsin in the 1800's. I'll take a guess that some of the young adults in the families migrated up to Canada and perhaps settled in Manitoba or Alberta Provinces. .. FYI: There are several different ways to "search" at www.familysearch.org You should also check out the Archives of the Mailing Lists and Message Boards for that surname.

Because of Laurine's postings and my own curiousity, I went to www.familysearch.org and did a search for the DEKELVER surname. I saw that the name probably comes from Belgium. But, I also saw that there were several families, or a very large extended family, with surname DEKELVER.. in Wisconsin, USA. I checked my USA wall map and see that the northern border of Wisconsin is not all that far from the Manitoba Province in Canada. So, some of the families could have very easily migrated from Wisconsin to Manitoba in the very early 1900's.

My name is Laurine Whitfill, I am looking for a Marie L. or Lorraine M. DeKelver, Decalver, Who worked at, I believe the Grand Hotel in Edmonton, the Salisbury House in Wpg, in the late 1940's. She was described as 5'4" tall, blond, fair, with blue eyes, and was considered to be attractive. She had completed her education to the 9th. Grade. She was in Wpg., when she worked at the Misericordia Hospital as a switchboard operator during her confinement. This was collected information from the Henderson Directories. I was born Mildred Eileene Decalver/DeKelver on April 1, 1941. My father was not named. The thing that "Niggles" me, is the fact I was not baptised after the adoption until 1947. Most Catholic babies are Baptised almost invetro. Could there be someone of the Jewish faith on the French side of her family. My mother's line was said to be (Belgium)French, and Norweigen, and Canadian born. There were so many leaving the old country due to the war. I have been look! ing for so long. I have hiking viking grandchildren that are beautiful. We are fair, with blue eyes and quite muscular. We have our education. My son Paul speaks 3 languages and his children are in accellerated classes here in So. California. I was raised in a French, Austrian/German, Catholic home. The surnames that I grew up with were Germain, and Neumann. I spent my younger years in Winnipeg and we lived in Deer Lodge. I went to St. Annes School, in St. James. We moved to So. Calif. when I was a teenager. I was educated here in Anaheim. I am now married to Jerry Whitfill, who originated from Texas. There are only about 4000 of them. This is where I found out about genealogy. And now, it is Monday, again. I am still looking. If you have any information, please drop me a line. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Hope to hear from you. Laurine Whitfill AKA. Mildred Eileene DeKelver/Decalver

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/7aB.2ACEAE/997.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello John: We have better tools than Loiselle Index now in Québec for genealogical research. But to locate marriages records or data one needs the name of both spouses. This is the problem we have for Pierre. We do not have a Québec-wide birth or baptism repertory or registry. So it is difficult to connect Nazaire with his parents via the baptism. In a case life this, Nazaire's marriage record would provide his parents' name but the applicable record cannot be found. Census: I will check but I do not believe that the Census for that period have been indexed yet. Not knowing the place where Nazaire lived between birth and 1865, it is difficult to locate in individual and his family in a census. Let me consult my experts with regard to the census route. au revoir, Jean-Mariea

You stated that "Pierre was likely married in Canada and that would be easy to find". PLEASE : Tell me how ! I have unsucessfully searched the Loiselle Marriage Index. Here are some known facts: Nazaire was born in Canada on Nov. 1, 1848. He migrated at age 17 (in 1865) to Ware, Mass. He married in Ware (1871) Elise Millette who came from St. Bruno. Quebec, Canada. The Town, The State, and The church have no record of the marriage. Both Nazaire's father and mother were born in Canada. The 1910 U.S. census shows that Nazaire was never naturalized and his place of birth was Fre Canada. which I assume means French Canada or (Que Canada ) due to an illegible entry. NOTE: Nazaire should be on the 1851 Canada census (age 2) and at age 12 on the 1861 census, with his father, Pierre, his mother, and perhaps his place of birth. I would greatly appreciate any help on your behalf, Sincerely, John

If you want to try posting to some of the Mailing Lists at www.rootsweb.com there is at least one list for "unsolved mysteries" and I think there is one for people seeking their birth parents. If you go to the above web site and scroll down and click on the Mailing List INDEX .. you will find ..all.. the Lists. Make sure you check out the various Miscellaneous and Other categories. The instructions on how to join the Lists are found there also. And, don't forget to go to the Archives of the Lists; at the same place there is a way to either "search" or "browse" the Archives. By doing this on both the Mailing Lists and Message Boards, I have found postings from 3 years ago which provided me with information on my family tree. One provided me with a "distant cousin" on the family tree of my grandmother. She was born in Boston in Feb. 1889 and was "a foundling." She went into "foster care." Around 1891? an older couple strangely left Killingly, CT, and moved to Boston and adopted my grandmother in Mar. 1892. Unfortunately, Mrs. DEXTER died in Apr. 1899, and Mr. DEXTER was ill, so my grandmother went back into "foster care." She remained "in Homes" until after she became 18. The "cousin" I found was also a descendant of Mrs. DEXTER's mother, and she has been very helpful. Also .. a genealogy hint is that more people will read your queries if you type the important surnames in capital letters.

Men have to be associated with a spouse and children with parents' names. Since you do not know the name of Nazaire's mother, the next best thing would be the name of nazaire's spouse. That will be available from his marriage record. Pierre was likely married in Canada and that will be easy to find. Keep in touch, Jean-Marie Hull,Québec

The following is info gained from notes of "The Old Ones" of our family. Here goes. An unknown LaLande came to Canada during the Napleonic Wars with 20 or so other Frenchmen, landing in Quebec. When the time was right a few men returned to France to return with theirs and the others Sweethearts... We don't know the first name of this first LaLonde but we know that the family used di Latrelle as part of his name. He and his wife settled in St. Hermas, Quebec and had 7 sons. There is mention of an old family place. I wonder if it is still there ??? One of the sons was Jean Anthime LaLonde who married a woman name of Anastasie Legault 1830-1904. These people are my great great grandparents. After time this family moved to a farm in St. Eugene, Ontario. My great grandparents were Joseph Stephen (Etienne) Lalonde and Marie Pomela LaLande 1865-1893. Joseph Stephen's parents were John B. (Jean Baptiste?) LaLonde and Estelle Marie Prouix (Pro! uelle). Any help would be greatly apprecated. Please e-mail me at sadiela1999@yahoo.com. Will gladly share what we have...
