Many of the dates for this Daniel family from the 1911 Canada Census match with my research. Harold(Harry) was born in Eccleshall,Staffs c.1884/5. and a family 'story' suggests he emigrated with his brother Frank, and possibly a widowed sister Ada Hacking (nee Daniel), around 1905/6/7.(Ada,my enigmatic grandmother, reappears in Manchester in 1915 at the birth of my father!!) Sarah Emily Daniel (nee Capewell) was born in Colton,Staffs c.1850/1.Her husband John Daniel died in Staffordshire in 1908.Sarah emigrating in 1909 makes sense-the family story relates that she wanted to be with her sons in Canada following the death of her husband. The Frank Daniel you mentioned in your previous e-mail is interesting and enticing - this could be the 'missing' Frank;he is approximately the correct age,he lives in Sherbrooke close presumably to Harry but he emigrated in 1908 two years after Harry. On the same basis as Harold/Harry, is it possible Frank was listed under another name in the 1911 Canada Census? eg Frances/Francis? Regards David

And thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Most do not reply as fast and some not at all. I do believe it was in the Saskatchewan area, because the family came over from Germany and moved to Buffallo N.Y. So to me Saskatchewan would make since. I have very little family information. Just Great Grand Fathers name and Great Grand Mothers Maiden name and the list of there children where they lived and their deaths and some of their births. The rest I have found on the web, with people like yourself helping me.I will check out the Alberta area. I may find something there. I would love to find some kin, as I have no family other than my children and husband. My parents died in 1985 in a car accident. Grand parents gone along with other kin. If you can help any further, I would greatly appreciate it. I am very limited on funds, so I cannot subscribe to anything at this time. But I will keep up the search. Thanks, so very much, Mary Moeller Drum My Personal E-mail is [email protected] please keep in touch.

I know she married Joseph Balardo in 1910, and either before or after that they moved to Michigan. As the story goes, her family was not pleased she married Joseph, so they left Canada to come to the States. What makes this even more difficult is that supposedly the spelling of her husband's family name at some point was changed from "Balardeaux" to "Balardo." Supposedly, the family was embarrased of their French Canadian Indian heritage and wanted to pass as Italian. Joseph's death certificate lists his father as Vincent Balardo from Canada. Mother's name is unknown. I don't have exact locations of births or an exact marriage date/place, so I am unable to obtain a marriage certificate or birth certificates without that information. Helen did have three sons, all born in Michigan. I will have to get their birth certificates to see if the mothers maiden name is the sam! e. I had thought of obtaining Helen's social security application, since her maiden name would then be in her own writing - straight from the source, as they say. Unfortunately, Joseph died in 1931 before social security came along, so I won't be able to get the same information for him. I have tried searching passenger lists, but there are precious few "Balardo" ancestors anywhere - and absolutely no Opelliantic ancestors. The family shows up in the U.S. census in Michigan in 1930, and that is the only census they appear in, even though they were in the states for close to 20 years by then. For now, I will obtain birth certificates for the sons, a copy of the social security application for Helen, and continue looking for both surnames in Canada. Thanks for the help!
