I know that they had 3 children born in Scotland before they emigrated (Alexina 1911, Margaret Bruce 1914 and Harry Edwards 1920.). I did see on the Internet previously that Margaret Bruce McEwan had married a Frederic McMullen, and she may have died in BC in 1975, and that they may have had a daughter Carole but that is all I know. Anyone who has any information then I would be happy to hear from them. Failing that any tips on how to find out anything else in regard to pointing me in the most likely direction would be great! Use the Toronto Library's "Ask a Librarian" service for a directory lookup for Toronto for the years surrounding 1959 for Megyesi. That should help you narrow down the number of families you are looking for. Also, take out a very reasonable subscription to the Toronto Star's archives at: www.pagesofthepast.ca It is fully searchable and you may get some hits on that surname which may give you additional information about the family.

So since her mother was born in 1921 , I would say the daughter was born about 1941-1950 in the states Best I can do since no age of course is mention in her mother's obituary, and no first name for Marcia's husband, nor age for her daughter Theresa APPLE Amman

The Subject Line - should have the Surname of Interest - followed by the given name. rather than words like contact, help etc. Names will attract people - words - may just be passed by - by persons who may be able to help. Also makes your message much easier to find - should anyone remember your quest - but not the subject line. Do you have the names of any relatives of James LEECH. Did James LEECH - come to Canada? Hello Listers, I am back on the search for the parents of Sarah Ann McGowan. I now have a little more information than the last time I searched for her. According to the petition Sarah filed to receive a Pension after the death of her husband, Stephen Brooks during the American Civil War, Sarah was born about 1835 in Canada. Also according to the affidavit that Sarah made in her own handwriting, Sarah McGowan and Stephen Brooks were married on August 21, 1853 in Windsor, Vermont. According to the record of Marriage for Sarah's son, William Washington Brooks and his second wife Blanche M Reyes(sp?) in Wentworth, New Hampshire town records, Sarah Ann McGowan was born in Valentine, Canada. According to the Pension request paperwork received from the United States Archives, Sarah was paid her last payment on December 4, 1882 and dropped from the roles on March 24, 1883 due to her death. Therefore Sarah died sometime after December 4, 1882 and prior to March 24, 1883. Sarah is buried in Haverhill, New Hampshire. Is anyone out there able to help me find her parents with what little information I have or able to point me in the right direction as I know nothing about how or where to find information in Canada. Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to give me. Sheila Brooks Kittery, Maine

As far as I know, all those in Canada originated in Andrásfalva, Bukovina (though some families moved first to Déva, Romania, then to Canada). Most of the families homesteaded in Saskatchewan, Canada (to the area north of Regina), but starting in the 1920s and 30s, some of them went to eastern Canada and took up industrial jobs there. I suspect that your Daradics is from one of these families, but without a first name and approximate birthdate, I can't really make the connection. Beth

Hello, I found out this week that an older brother of my great-grandmother, nee' Mary Elizabeth CORKILL, also came to Canada. Mary was born in Liverpool, England, in 1860, and came to Nova Scotia in 1875 as a "British Home Child." Their 4 younger siblings had been shipped to Nova Scotia in 1874; they were ages 11 down to 3 years old. The 2 older brothers were Edward CORKILL, b1856 Liverpool, England, and Lewis CORKILL, b~1858 Liverpool, England. It seems that Edward, as an adult went to British Columbia! And, I was wondering if anyone knew whether his brother also came to Canada ! This was a family very much involved with "the sea." Their father was Evan CORKILL, b1827 on the Isle of Man. He was a life-long, Master Mariner. His wife was nee' Elizabeth QUAYLE, b1830 in Whitehaven, Cumbria/Cumberland. They married in Liverpool, England, in 1852 and then lived there. I do not yet know whether they had any children between 1852 and 1856. Mrs. CORKILL died in 1873, and the children seem to have gone to live with their uncle, John CORKILL, and his family in Liverpool, England. But, soon after, because their father was always "at sea," the 5 younger children were taken to the "Liverpool Sheltering Homes." We are guessing the 2 older sons were already working on the docks, or on ships by the time they were teens, and so they remained in Liverpool. I have come to find out that CORKILL is spelled in many ways; e.g., CORKHILL, COCKILL, CORNHILL, and the original name from the Isle of Man was McCORQUODALE (Sp?), and there are many variations on that. And, I found out many of the CORKILL's from the U.K. came to North America, but I don't think too many researchers are looking for them! Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

Hello When you mention your Aunt talked of Minden in Canada, I wonder if she meant Lynden, a village within Beverley Township, Wentworth County, Ontario? In the 1911 Census there is a Peter Crouse in Lynden born 1856, in the home of his brother John born 1866, both Widowers of German origin but with Canadian citzenship. John, a Farmer, has a son Ralph B born 1894 and two daughters, Lena V born 1899 and Francis M born 1904. I realise that this conflicts with your information about John's birth and death - if you are sure about that, then the Crouse brothers above are not relevant to you. I must say, though, that I could not see your John Kruse in the 1900 Census of Nebraska. Good luck with your search Dick Chandler in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada
