    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/7aB.2ACEAE/2326.1 Message Board Post: I imagine the area referred to is the Red River area of Manitoba. You can search the 1911 census for surnames on http://automatedgenealogy.com/census. Note that all that census has not yet been transcribed. In a quick look some of the surnames you list are in Rural Municipality of MacDonald, which is in the Red River Valley. In searching, you need to Merge some of the related spellings of the surnames, as they may be spelled differently than the way you have them. For example, I didn't get a Binnington, but when the Search said "No Matches", I clicked on Bennington and merged it to get some names. I believe Downes and Downs are also listed. There is a section at the top of the screen of a transcribed page where you can link to the actual census image to see more of the information about the persons on that page. Diana Gendron

There were other ports of entry - other than Ellis Island . If Frank VETAL was born in Canada - he might have crossed the border - to the U.S.A. by land. Searched the 1881 Census - for Canada - there are 5 VETAL surnames listed - all in the Province of Quebec. *Perhaps you can assume - that Frank J. VETAL - had been born in the Province of Quebec as well. There are 19 VETAL surnames listed in the 1880 U.S.A. census - 0 Frank. Frank VETAL was your Grandfather? Perhaps there are other family members? Your parents Birth Registration/Long Form Certificate - should show his name perhaps other information. Your Grandparents Marriage Registration/Long Form Certificate - usually shows the names of the parents of the bride and groom - etc. Cheers, Stella
