However, I did see another post come through saying something about Quebec. So, you have a starting point, it might not be the right one, but it's probably better than nothing at this early point. Sorry KarenP

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/7aB.2ACEAE/4928.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Karen - Hopefully you will be able to shed some light on this guy. Both the 1850 and 1860 US census records, as well as later census for his daughter show that he was born in Canada. I am not 100% certain on the 1816, but have based it on the age that was given in 1850 Onondaga Co, NY census, where he was age 34, and the 1860 Cayuga census record, showing him as 44, both of which would put him born c. 1816. He was living in the US, as best I can guess, by 1845, as the 1850 census shows him with a 5 yr. old son, born in the US. TIA for any information you might be able to come up with. Bonnie

This is likely Gasper living with his aunt in the 1881 census: Household: Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion Elizabeth SEABYER Female German 57 Nova Scotia Church of England Gasper SEABYER Male German 34 Nova Scotia Fisherman Church of England Alfred SCHWARTZ Male German 23 Nova Scotia Labourer Church of England Gabriel SCHWARTZ Male German 20 Nova Scotia Labourer Church of England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Census Place Black Point, Halifax, Nova Scotia Family History Library Film 1375805 NA Film Number C-13169 District 10 Sub-district J Division 1 Page Number 12 Household Number 52 Your best bet is to find Gasper's marriage registration which should give you his parent's names. Also, I would consider the thought that Elizabeth is not his aunt, but rather his mother, and that he may have been born illegitimately.

As it's quite an usual name hopefully there might be a distant link to who I'm searching for. Regards, Karen
