He was born June 1st, 1892 in Kelty, Fifeshire, Scotland. His parents names, according to his marrige certificate were, Robert Wilkie and Elizabeth Boyd. He came to Canada in 1902 with his Aunt and Uncle. They are listed as James D McDonald, born about 1861, in Scotland and Mary McDonald, born Oct 1848, also in Scotland. A John Miller was also listed with them. He was the grandson of James and Mary. He was born Aug 1892, in Scotland. William Ralph Wilkie married Annie Gardner Cahill in 1915, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Annie was an orphan from Dundee, Scotland, but she was born in Cork, Ireland. Her parents are beleived to be Maria Cahill and Robert Gardner. She came to Canada as a Nanny.(I don't know the name of the family who brought her over.) William and Annie had 5 children. My GGrandfather was known to have gone by William, Ralph and Bill. William was also a member of the Royal North West Mount! ed Police. He inlisted twice. The first time was for 22 months, the second time was in Aug of 1918, as part of the Siberian Cavalry. His trade on his Attestation papers is Miner. We also know that he worked the Springhill mine in Nova Scotia and also the Coleman mines. If anyone has any information on either of my Great Grandparents, John Miller or the McDonalds it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Also, tell your sister not to bother with the films from the LDS. They are a complete copy to what is available online at ancestry, and will not provide any additional information. That said, why are you convinced that the James born in April 1873 is not your James? Birth dates were notoriously incorrect from one record to another, but usually the one written closest to the actual event was usually the most accurate. The birthdate given on his death registration, and/or marriage registration may be been miscalculated or simply a mistake when he wrote down the year.

The Canada information comes from David's two g-daughters - I would not have known he was from Canada. After 1878 he was living in Isabella County, MI and appears to be completely without family. His neighbors are from Ireland and Canada - I have tried to trace them back - but they all seem to come from different counties in Canada, if I can find them at all. David never uses a middle name - but his second son was named David Robert. His first son's name was GEORGE and his wife's, first husband, name was George, too - so I assume, he would not name his first son after him and maybe it was his father/brother - but I can't find a George either. Can you tell me - the 1871 Census - Canada is online listing head of house only - does the Library of Canada have an every name index?

I'm not exactly sure how you'd go about finding it but there must be someone on this list that would know. I strongly suggest asking about baptismal certificates for Frotenac to the CAN-ONT-CARLETON list and the CAN-ONT-LANARK list....I'm not sure of the exact format of the names but I am close. I know there are people on those lists that would be able to tell you how to find a baptismal record for Frontenac. KarenP Ontario

There were at least 18 families with that last name that all arrived in this area 20 years prior to David's birth. By your dates, David would have arrived here as a youngster and I could not find any David arriving here in and around the time frame you specify (my resources only, mind you) I bid you good luck in your research. I think I have both of those documents printed. You are correct about 1871, not 1872. My mistake I don't have all of my sources here in front of me, but I'm showing George being married 3 times, first to a Jane Bremner (his 1st cousin) and then after she died, to Louisa Naismith. There is a record of a birth James Livingston to George and Louisa born 4/1/1873 but that Louisa died on 4/30/1873 and then George married again to a Jane Carswell I believe and she was the wife he was married to at the time of his death The problem being that second wife. The maiden name is perfect but her sons James' date of birth is prior to the one I'm looking for and her death of course. But its the only Livingston/Naismith I can find that comes even close to what I'm looking for Thanks, Suzanne

This may lead you to info in Canada - then back to where he was born. Have you searched for Letter of Intent - Citizenship. Available from State Archive where application was made - or National Archive in Washington D.C. this will show personal information. Do you know when/Where David HALL passed away? Death Registration/Long Form Certificate may provide some info - all depends on the knowledge of the informant. Did David Hall Marry - you may be able to use this information - from family members etc - to trace back - to Canada, Ireland. Cheers, Stella

Per his death certificate from here in WA state he was born 4/25/1874. But the death certificate doesn't provide his parents names. I have a copy of his obituary as well, which also doesnt provide that info, only that he had several brothers and sisters in Canada According to the website www.familysearch.org there is a record of a James Livingston(e) with the same date of birth and death (12/24/1937) being born in Frontenac County I have a copy of his marriage certificate which only verifies his mother's maiden name as "Naismith". Father's name is listed as "Gro Livingston". We're assuming it means George, we hope However I've been thru the Ancestry.ca website and viewed the line birth registers, census records, death records and all that. There is no record so far of any James Livingston with that date of birth with a mother's maiden name is Naismith There is a George Livingston and a Louisa Naismith who married in 1872 and has a son James in April 1873 only to have his mother pass away late that same month. My sister is requesting the films necessary for viewing the birth registrations thru her local LDS Family History Center and I've written a couple of letters to family members to see if any information was passed down But other than that, I'm at a loss as to what I can do. If his birth wasn't listed online in the Canadian birth records, it wouldn't be on the microfilms either would it? It's my understand and hopefully someone here can correct if I'm wrong but registering your child's birth was a relatively new thing to be done back in 1873-1874, so it may not have been registered Are the birth registrations the only birth records available in Canada? Or is there some other type I should be looking for? Any suggestions or ideas are very much appreciated. Thanks, Suzanne
