    1. Re: [CGW] PANTING family in Canada - wed to JONES
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: estre68132 Surnames: PANTING, JONES Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.cangenweb/5296.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Stella: because I'm hitting a road block with the JONES line I shifted to PANTING, but I don't know very much about them. I would love to find a living relative of the line to see if they have more to add to the JONES side as well as their own. JONES' came to Canada between 1900 and 1912; with Edward Arthur JONES and Stanley Vaughan JONES arriving in about 1902. Their parents came later, as did their sisters. Edward and the sisters traveled back and forth to England a number of times. The PANTING line came from a marriage to one of Edward's daughters, Ethel Beatrice JONES to Christopher Leslie PANTING. I don't have a marriage date or children, but both Ethel and Christopher were born in 1906...both in England. By 1912 most of the JONES family had settled in Winnipeg, but Stanley and his wife, Mary Jane (nee BROWNRIGG) VICKERS, were first in Montreal then in Dilke, Saskatchewan, where my mother, Mavis JONES, was born in either 1912 or 1913. I haven't looked at 411 but suppose I could start calling some of them....good idea! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! thanks, m Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His son, Henry Robert Lindsay, was my grandfather. My understanding from my uncle's research is that Alfred was born Jan. 7, 1882 in Quebec. Peter Lindsay and Helen Martin were his parents. Peter was born in Canada and married in Quebec about 1877 and died in Mass. on May 21, 1925. Alfred died Feb. 20, 1923 also in Mass. Newspaper stories about Alfred's son (whose name I believe was Alfred or Leroy) referred to the family as French Canadian. They were living in New York at the time of the news stories (unfortunately, my great uncle committed a double homicide and was electrocuted at Sing Sing in the 1930s so he was in the news). You can obtain it through the LDS. The 1861 census includes information about the property occupied, but it is not a separate schedule. Again, it is only available on microfilm. The 1901 Census includes the information as well, in Schedule 2 for each district, and they are part of the online records available through the Library & Archives Canada. The 1911 census (available at the same site) included the address of each person on the Population Schedule, but the Agricultural Census was not retained. Ditto for the other years' census.
