    3. 12 October 2000 John Bryden, MP Mr: Bryden. I am writing regarding an email you recently sent to Elaine Hamm, the text of which is copied below, in which you stated you had spoken to John Manley regarding 1911 Census records. You stated your belief that an announcement was imminent. Despite numerous requests to do so, Mr. Manley has so far refused to release to the public the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census. To date he has given no reason for his refusal to release this Report, nor given any indication of when he intends to do so. Would you be so kind as to ask Mr. Manley, either privately, or during Question Period in the House of Commons, why he has so far refused to release the Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census, and when he intends to do so? As there is every indication that a Federal Election will be called by 22 October 2000 it is imperative that this Report be made available to the Public NOW. Thank you. Gordon A. Dear Elaine Hamm, Thank you for your recent email regarding the 1911 Census. I have spoken to Industry Minister John Manley and he assures me that the 1911 Census records will be preserved and a method developed to permit appropriate access. I believe an announcement is imminent. Yours sincerely, John Bryden
