    1. [CCC-L] Post 1901 Census - Special Expert Panel Report supposedly to be published June 30/00
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Before you read the following letter, Gordon Watts has been advised by two people that John Manley is reading the Report of the Expert Panel -- hopefully we may hear soon -- but the fall session of Parliament starts Sept. 18, 2000 -- release of report could be near that time period. Muriel M. Davidson <davidson3542@home.com> >>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<< The following letter was posted to ones listed below:- expert.panel_comite.experts@statcan.ca Chretien.J@parl.gc.ca "Manley, John - M.P." <Manley.J@parl.gc.ca> >>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<< TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: As an amateur genealogiest and family historian, I would really like to know where & WHEN the Expert Panel's Post 1901 Census report will be released to the public. The PROMISED date of release was supposed to have been on June 30, 2000 which has come and gone. Is this another Liberal Government stall tactic OR ONE OF THOSE DUBIOUS PROMISES so famously made by government officials and never kept. Except, of course, for StatsCan who wants to keep the so called promise that they claimed Sir Wilfred Laurier made 90 years ago in 1906 and still have not proven. Give us the location of this written "promise" so we can read it for ourselves. What page, date, year in the Hansard publication was this promise recorded or what newspaper? We can certainly find the "promise" that was made during WWI that stated that the Income Taxes would be abolished at the end of the war. A great "promise" that was never kept. What about you, Mr. Chretien....you "promised" no more GST if we voted for you!! I don't put much store in your promises nor anyone elses....so why would I believe you when you say Sir Wilfred Laurier made a so called promise in 1906? For argument's sake, let's say it was true, why would you want to keep that 90 year old promise when you can't even keep a modern day promise that will effect us now? Absolutely no one cares about the 90 year old census expect historians and family members....there is no one alive who would care. My Aunt was was barely two years old in 1911.....she has been waiting for this census as she would like to know more about her parents before she passes away. By the way, I notice that you have used a lot a "BIG" shots with "BIG" titles for this Expert Panel. Why weren't some ordinary Canadians who actually are interested in Canadian history from one of Canada's Genealogy Societies OR National Archives included in your "Expert Panel"? Those "BIG" shots probably have never even looked at a Census film or tried to trace a family member for medical purposes OR searched in the past for family members with diseases that are hereditary OR wanted to trace a family member to settle a "Probated Will" OR wondered where their family originated OR a need to trace their native heritage to make a claim OR a lost relative who is needed for a bone marrow transplant. If our Census records are destroyed, absolutely none of these issues would beable to be solved. This would be an outrage to all civilized and intelligent people in the world that have had any connection to Canada. PLEASE PLEASE RELEASE THAT EXPERT PANEL REPORT SO WE KNOW WHAT KIND OF BATTLE WE MUST WAGE AGAINST ALL POLITICIANS THAT HAVE NEGLECTED TO ANSWER OUR LETTERS OR EMAILS. Supposedly many of them are waiting for the same report so they can make a decision. It goes without mention that they can't think for themselves. There are a lot of "fence sitters" in the Liberal Party and MP's that don't feel that they have to be answerable to the general public and individuals in their riding. At this time, I would like to remind you that our income tax monies have been used to pay for this report so we, the public, have a right to see it......so release it now PLEASE. To me, it is very suspicious that this delay is occuring. Is it because you are afraid that there will be an uproar all across Canada? Or, maybe you are hoping this will die a "slow death". Well, I am here to tell you this issue will not die!!! You will have to address it sooner rather than later, so now it the time to do it. Miss Adele Turner #67 - 1947 Purcell Way North Vancouver, B.
