Please -- Will others answer this letter!!! Muriel M. Davidson --------------------------------------------------------- I think it would be far more appropriate to refrain from such argumentive language when writing to a minister of the crown. You do not speak on my behalf so kindly speak for yourself and do not say you speak on the behalf of all genealogists. I want to see the census released just as much as you do but I do not believe any good can come by writing nasty letters to government members. We can only tell them why we want the census made public and opponents can tell them why they think it should remain private. After that it is up to the government to act in the manner they think best. Hopefully they will agree with our views and release the census material. I have to agree with Mr. Garner. No good will come from a barrage of rude and sarcastic letters and e-mails. The private members' bills will all die on the order paper when Parliament is dissolved and a general election is called. Many of the current MPs will not be re-nominated or will not re-offer and others will be defeated so their current position is moot. The tone and content of most of these messages is regrettable. I think it would be much better to concentrate our efforts on petitions to those responsible and education in the form of letters to newspapers, genealogical and historical societies. The fact that a number of mailing lists have banned these postings is only further evidence that they harm the cause rather than advance it. Mr. Garner: I say, why not write nasty notes to the MP's? I have spent numerous hours emailing every MP across Canada three times this past year....getting VERY FEW replies from them. Each time I have sent them an email, I get nastier because the MP's don't seem to think they need to be answerable to anyone except themselves or their party. Are we going to stand by like typical Canadians keeping your thoughts to yourself and not causing any waves? How do you think new laws get passed or issues get noticed like "Mothers Against Drunk Drivers" if we continue to let MP's do their own thing? If, we, the researchers don't do something now, who do you think will? I personally have collected about 200 signatures on a petition and all the people that I have spoken to do not know anything about the destruction of the Post 1901 Census'? So, we have to SPEAK UP for them and DO IT LOUDLY for all future generations or it will be TOO LATE. I wish that our politians would be more responsive to all the voters so that I don't have to get my dander up but if I don't and you don't......who is going to do our dirty work...Muriel Davidson and Gordon Watt by themselves? Are we going to let the MP's in the House of Commons railroad us like they have been known to do over many other issues because we, the Canadian people, don't yell loud enough OR care enough. Enough said about the issue...NASTY VERSUS NICE.....I prefer nice but in my book now, niceties are over. IT IS WAR NOW. Adele Turner, North Vancouver in Ted White's Canadian Alliance riding (he is voting AGAINST THE RELEASE...he was nasty to me first so with him I have been nasty in return because jerks deserve it....I have recently found out that he is not very well liked in my riding.....he is one of those MP's that likes to "dance to his own tune") ----- Original Message ----- From: Muriel M.
